Yuk! was my first reaction when I first saw the front! It is absolutely hideous and I completely second the opinions of all the people who have shared similar reactions on the looks of the XUV500. Mahindra simply went overboard with the aggression on the frontend and overdid it. The cuts in the bumper are disastrous and horrid, along with the floating grill. We had all seen the pics of this White prototype a few weeks back before the launch and all of us were hoping that this would not be the final version, and that they would fix the grill and bumper before the launch. Unfortunately, they went ahead and launched the same design, which quite simply put, is Horrible. It has really put off a lot of buyers and it seems like Mahindra will have to apply a front end redesign very soon with a simpler bumper and Grill. There are also so many other quirks like the weird bulge on rear hatch - completely uncalled for! The taillights - lifted off a Volvo XC90, look somewhat ok. The bulge over the rear wheel arches is also a design blunder and should have been avoided.
Interiors look Ok, but the wood finish and the front AC vents look down market.
Will see the XUV500 in person in few days and then take a call.
We were planning to change our Civic with this, but after seeing the final outcome, I am completely unsure whether it will be a good choice!
Let's hope that Mahindra's get some sense and fix at least some of the design quirks!

If you have read all the posts, you would have seen the pictures of the launch as well which means it is launched. Moreover, you would also have read that pricing and specs will be revealed today.

After a wait for so long, have got mixed feelings after seeing this. Why did they botch up the front fender/grill ? aaargh. Could it be an cooling issue so they used this design to let in more air?

Overall this is a great effort from M&M.

The design is you love some you hate some type.
My taught:-

1) Excellent Dash, Beautiful, Functional and WOW factor.
2) Side profile, Looks good with the huge wheel arch's and the blackened D Pillar.
3) Good Stance and looks proportionate.
4) Front Tooth not to my licking, and the whole front looks like it require a rethink, i understand why the went for so many variations. As designers might have wanted to hide its bulkiness. But ended up making it weird and wacky ready. (DC and others might have already started working on this, as most of the XUV owners will surely have an additional 1lac to spare.)
5) Back, wooooow what's that... this is a place where nothing can be done. Its totally Wrong, I taught a lot on what can be done, i say............ Nothing. Really Bad.
(though must agree the tail lamps look nice, maybe the Bus Body builders will design their new bus range around these lamps.)
6) the Sloping roof, looks seriously nice.
7) Internal space, good front, excellent second row, third row strictly for children.

Feel Sad this will go the Aria way, if price anything above 12lac.

You know what Mahindra, push down that front grille (like the pic posted by one of the moderators) and mount the spare wheel at the back. It will look much much better.

Wow on the price front! considering the feature rich models.... this is one shocker!

Looks like designers added fake air scoops up front to visually minimize the bulk of the front bumper and messed up the whole look in process.
Also over-designed in places, like Koreans, but couldn't achieve a similar result.

Basic design lines are not really bad. The overall proportions and stance of the car are pretty good. Just need to take care of these things -

- Redesign the front bumper and grille. Clean and simple (GV like) is what we want. Trademark grille has got to go.
- Get rid of the "moon" above rear wheel arches. A straight line needed there.
- Redesign the rear door + tail-lights.

These things could make it a better-seller.

I wonder how do they even approve these designs.
