AWESOME is the word. I just loved the instrument console & the Audi like red lighting!

1) Whats on the display on the centre screen?
2) Do I see AWD off button?

The dash console looks great, except for the orange lighting. Could be a camera issue though, so won't judge until the product is actually launched.

The gear lever looks like it is broken? Hope that is a pre-production unit. I believe Mahindra's QC is pretty decent, so can't imagine that making it to a production car.

Estimated pricing sounds like the death-knell for the Aria. Although with all the features provided, the estimates may be a bit optimistic.

re: New Mahindra SUV for 2011 - Pics on Pg. 109 *UPDATE* XUV500 launched at 10.8 lakhs

my surmise - like a guess-timate

Base level 2WD with zilch except the overall look - 11 lacs ish
Base 2WD with No Airbags but would have ABS - 12 lacs ish (like the SLE Scorp)
Mid Range 2WD with 2 Airbags and ABS - 13 lacs ish
Mid Range AWD with 2 or more Airbags and ABS and some electronic gizmos - 14 lacs ish
Top end AWD with all the Bells and Whistles possible - 15 lacs ish

In a scenario like the above the Mid Range AWD will be the best bet overall.

If it does indeed come to 14 + Taxes + Insurance we are talking about 17 ish on road Bangalore. Thats expensive but still bearable.

The top end one could be around 19 ish on road like the Aria.

I wonder though whether they will indeed complicate the issue with 4 variants as above. They may only do 3 variants with a larger gap between the pricing and of course the equipment to match accordingly.

I somehow doubt they will even bother to introduce a NON airbag/ abs base version of this vehicle.

lets wait a week and see!!!

Hence the comments above. I hope sincerely hope, the top version is priced much below that price limit. But I doubt it would be so.

re: New Mahindra SUV for 2011 - Pics on Pg. 109 *UPDATE* XUV500 launched at 10.8 lakhs

probably as an evolutionary step at the next level - which will probably be at the top most end like the Scorp AT is.
and with a premium of about 1 lac over the manual top end one.
which will effectively hit the 20 lac mark on road bangalore I guess.
But how many takers are there for an M&M at that kind of price?
time will tell I guess - no harm waiting.

But with the extensive testing they ve done, I hope they have ironed all the issues out. We certainly would not want a repeat of the V1, V2, V3 Scorpio ad nauseam again with this XUV 500.

I hope this car becomes a game changer in two segments & also change the fortunes for M&M !

Looks like navigation system to me.

Yeah, the silver cladding is broken on the driver side as I noticed. It should be rectified since this is a premium car.

As far as I know, the Scorio AT has problems with the gear box. So they might take some time to bring it in this car or may even do away with it.

Extremely unlikely. Full time AWD like in the Land Cruiser/Pajero require a center differential. As the Five OOOH OOOH AAH has a transversely mounted engine, this is not possible due to space constraints. It will have a light duty clutch pack based on demand AWD system like the Tata Arias.

You mean to say that we can switch on / off the 4x4 ? Generally this vehicle will be a 4x2 ? Isn't it better since this tech can provide a better efficiency than AWD ?

on demand AWD yes. but only in the upper mid/ top end version as far as I know.
but I dont think the clutch system will be as robust as perhaps the Yeti's Haldex.
Plus there is no info about how much power is fed to each wheel normally and when things get slushy.
There is however an AWD lock button from what I remember. Wonder if this is similar to the one in the Tucson.
Anyway - the 29th of Sep will tell us the necessary tales!
I hope they ve taken into account the detailed feedback given after my interaction with them in May 2011. If they have, and if they have executed all this properly, then it may be a goood vehicle to consider buying.

Hi Shankar, the AWD Lock button that comes on the soft roaders on-demand systems are not robust enough to be engaged in Full Time 4WD continuously.

Even if you put 4WD/AWD lock, it will automatically disengage when you cross a certain speed.

re: New Mahindra SUV for 2011 - Pics on Pg. 109 *UPDATE* XUV500 launched at 10.8 lakhs

thanks
yes I surmised as much but thanks for confirming it.
anyway one supposes that one will use the 4WD lock button only if going slowly in slushy, snowy or other such conditions. even in dry loose surfaced conditions.
and one wont try to drive at high speeds with the 4WD lock on unless one is rather thick, wouldnt you say?

The display shows the Radio on the top (FM1## 104.0##) and the aircon system at the bottom showing the "circulator" switched off (outside air is coming in) with the blower air directed to face and foot levels.

Also it looks monochromatic and not colorful. Is it really going to be the navigation system?
