Well...It is most definitely the next SUV offering from the house on Mahindra's. It is not a butched up XYLO, a Toyota-Fortuner or any other vehicle being used for benchmarking.

Despite the heavy cladding, The shape can clearly tell us that this is a Crossover SUV. Dont go by the Steel wheel rims and the Round headlamps cause it is just a prototype.

This is mahindra's answer to India and the rest of the world. From the kind of lineup mahindra is planning, The Scorpio Pickup in the US is just a start.

We can keep grumbling about the ads & ad agencies, while M & M will be laughing all the way to the bank.
THe vehicle is selling because its a sound design, great product at a great price. THat doesn't change the fact that most older, educated people find the name stupid and silly. Maybe they would have sold 4000 Xylos if the had a better name.

According to an insider at Mahindra, it is indeed a hummer look alike vehicle only for the armed forces. Unfortunately not for the civilians.

It is called the Mahindra Axe.

Dear Motor Heads,
I wish to put all speculations to rest. This vehicle is A FUTURE MAHINDRA SUV. A Crossover. The Dummy tail lamps are of the old scorpio.

It is not the Mahindra AXE. They dont need to comouflage the AXE as it was already showcased at the 2008 Auto Expo.

And it is definitely not a Padmini.

It is not a XYLO Pickup by any chance because of one simple reason...No Load Body

This vehicle will be out by Beginning 2011.
And this is not a guess or a speculation.

Definitely it is not the Mahindra Axe. I remember reading the test drive review of Axe in 2007 (Nov or Dec) edition of Overdrive.
Specs include 2.7L inline 5 (Mercedes engine) ,172 BHP, 5 Speed Automatic gear box. It has a grareability of 70 degree and the vehicle is 1.96 metres wide, much bigger than this test mule.

Guys saw a rexton yesterday, I think this is going to be a copy of the Rexton. The proportions, hieght etc looks more or less similar. I remember somebody telling me that Mahindra is developing something on the lines of rexton, I thought it would be a XYlo but that turned out to be totally different and disappointing. Anyways I hope this one is close to a Rexton because it had some road presence when compared to the CRV's, Xtrails, prados, Range rovers that were around it.

The axe is built only for the Army by a company called Mahindra Defence Systems based in delhi.

It does not have a gradeability of 70 deg but 45 deg.

It's definately not the fortuner , it's already a devoloped car and just to fine tune the suspension for Indian conditions they'll not camophage like this. May be M&M is working on a civillian version of the AXE , from it's proportions it certainly looks like that

I Think throttler is right here.
This just may be the W201 model that is being developed as Mahindra's World Car.Its primary aim is to crack the US market i hear.

Nice to see an indian car company having global aspirations.
