First off this is an all new SUV and not a new Scorpio. Scorpio will continue to be sold in the current price range. The new SUV will be positioned above the Scorpio.
Just to add to your point.

It was conceived as the 'New Scorpio'. Since at a subsequent stage they decided to continue the old one along it became the 'new SUV'

Adding to the above point(!) I still have the quotes from Anand Mahindra that the Scorpio will be replaced after six years by a new platform and that it will not be continued like their old platforms! Only if wishes were true...

Looks quite promising in the pictures.

More power, bigger body, wider tooth grill these are the things that make a Mahindra.

Though if its better than the Scorpio I suspect it'll be priced higher. May be a 15L price range SUV.

Hope they launch it this year and don't wait till the next

Economic my friend. I guess they have updated the platform well and are selling about 3000 units a month so there is no reason to discontinue it. India sorely lacks a good option between the Safari/Scorpio and the over priced imports north of 19 lakhs. This is an untapped segment and Mahindra may hit the sweet spot with this SUV.

Sorry mate - They would be launching it in 2012 - Not this year or next. It would look like a blotted up version of the Pajero. It is all the same design except this one is a bit broader. From what I heard, it is going to be a 2.6 Ltr engine - Probably the same engine used in scorpio.

It would be great no doubt. The reference to the 2.6 engine makes me think it would be an expanded mHawk rather than Scorpio's old CRDe 2.6 mill. That way they would probably have 150-160 bhp which is par for the course in the safari - endeavour segment. This makes more sense to me.

Edit: It would be great, only if they give it humane looks without the bad genetics of big foul-smelling!? teeth. The Fortuner manages to look menacing and aggressive without any overt styling cues that make it look so. Hope they have the sense to do that. Else most people would still buy but not really be proud of the looks.

I don't understand why people keep speculating about news that has been confirmed by company insiders and mahindra vendors? Do you guys think Mahindra is stupid enough to put an older engine in their latest SUV bound for western markets? Rack your brains a little and think of the answer? It is going to have the uprated version of the 2.2 mhawk engine.

Camouflaged Vehicle Spotted

Was in Chennai last week and was lucky enough to spot this highly camouflaged vehicle on the Chennai - Pondy stretch.

I actually saw it twice on the same stretch.

I searched thoroughly for a thread on the same, but couldn't find one. Was surprised - how come no Chennai T-Bhpian spotted this?
Note to Mods : Please merge with a relevant thread if one does exist.

Spotted it first at the toll collection place. We had been in a real hurry, so had to let go of the idea of going closer and taking better snaps.

Had lost all hope. And then spotted it again emerging from the farmlands onto the side of the road(as though being tested for mild off-roading capability(?)). Please pardon the Sai Baba sticker on the cab's mirror.

Sorry, couldn't get any better snaps. :(

It's a MH 15 reg. Somehow the wheels remind me of Hyundai.

This is the new Mahindra SUV for sure. The front grille in the second picture indicates that this SUV is Mahindra.

EDIT : Earlier the second image was visible, but now its not visible. The grille looks like a more modified version of the grille in Bolero and Xylo.

Ladies & Gentlemen, i give you the grille of the new mahindra SUV.

New Mahindra SUV for 2011 - Pics on Pg. 109 *UPDATE* XUV500 launched at 10.8 lakhs-chennai-10-04d9.jpg

Grill looks like the one in fellow bhpian SRK's rendering posted here:

PS: I guess the vehicles in the two pics posted by esteemer are different test mules. If you look closely, the first one has ordinary steel wheels and the second one has alloy wheels.

The grille looks like a straight lift-off from the Xylo.

Oh no, Not the rabbit tooth treatment!
Hope that they have a different grille and using this as only a camouflage.

Yeah they're different. I spotted the one with no wheel covers at the toll centre and the other one about 40 kms from there.

On the Mahindra USA website i saw this following upcoming sketch;

Is the same one here we are talking which would cater to the US markets??

If that is so they would have to test, the mule in much harsh conditions(Scandinavia, Sweden), than testing it in India.

This one is a Xylo. One can clearly make out.
