this is a mahindra. the chrome instrument console clearly states that. this was visible in the earlier scoop pics too.

from side profile, definitely not a Murano.

At last the confusion is over, thanks to Jeepster.

The SUV exterior design is very refined and looks imposing on the road. Also, it does have some good looking interior bits if the Speedometer console is anything to go by.

the looks are very impressive. the acceleration was also very good with no body roll.

it had dual exhausts. too good to be a mahindra. the dash was massive one, not congested jeep types like those on scorpio.

I test drove the vehicle inside the Mahindra city and they have a track made around their factory. Though we were asked to just go randomly around but then we did put it through bumps and also slush and a road with loose gravel.

On loose gravel the vehicle held much better than the captiva which surprised me. The Captiva's wheels just kept spinning when the pedal was pushed to the floor but the W201 did have a little spin but then it caught the road and you could feel it.

I did see 5 fuel lines going to the injectors, so that is the reason I figured this was a 5pot engine. The engine bay was covered and I had to really bend and scoop to look inside.

It definitely has a better ride than the Scorpio. I have driven a scorpio a couple of times and it feels like a cradle but this was more stable that way and the braking was also much better. Oh ya coming to brakes it had disc brakes all around.

BTW a small note to tall drivers who have driven the Captiva, My friend who had come with me is a 6footer and his knee was brushing against the dash on the Captiva but in the W201 he had loads of place and when I pushed the seat back I could just barely touch the pedals thats how much is the seat travel.

I am sure everyone is eagerly waiting for this SUV and I am sure if they just get the quality niggles out they definitely have a true Indian SUV.

Since Tata's Aria might end up in the same price range, it's going to be another mighty and interesting tussle between the Tata & Mahindra brands, for sure, though I think Tatas have a headstart in terms of the launch date.

Why are guys so skeptical that Mahindra cannot produce a decent SUV? Murano has already been launched world wide. There is no reason to test something that is being planned as CBU with such extensive camouflage.

Mahindra would be well served to sneek release a few nice snaps of the world SUV - without it's camoflage - including a few interior snaps. I could hold back a few Aria customers from plonking their money.

Mahindra should atleast start testing couple of vehicles without camouflage. TBHP eyes will do the sneak release part.

I hope they do similar testing like what is happening with Tata Aria. This is one vehicle that I am very keenly waiting for. A decent one here, and I would drop the Fortuner plan and go for this one.

Didn't Mahindra already do it for Xylo? In reality Ford did a Mahindra

PS: May be someone already did this long before Mahindra, anybody know?
