No harm, none at all!

In fact I would like them to do one better. How about creating a marketing website to show periodically updated information like

1) No. of testing miles covered
2) No. of testing cars and their likely routes
3) Some defects discovered and fixed
4) Promo for volunteer test drivers to try the camouflaged test vehicle(s) in their inhouse track. They can even choose some of their long-term customers for this

If I spend some time, I am sure I can come up with more things Mahindra can share to make this pre-launch period interesting and involving for the existing and potential customers

Wow ..! only if M&M sees this.

I doubt the scorp will have a radical design like that.

We can expect only a few facelifts and nothing more.

If not, then certainly Xylo is up for a facelift
+1 to that. I only wish they give it to us for 12+ and not 16+

I know someone inside M&M, someone whos words I can trust! Had a word with him about this vehicle! The following points might interest you:

1> The new M&M SUV is almost ready
2> Will be priced around 15 (not conformed yet, but he said it will be 1-2 lakhs more than the mhawk)
3> The lauch will be post Diwali
4> The car has been doing test around the world as its gonna be a world class SUV. So unlike previous versions of M&M cars the first lost wont be faulty (hopefully(
5> He did not specify the specs of the car but he said its a very powerful machine, much stable than the Scorpio and made as per international standards

M&M is pretty good at positioning their products, I guess they are waiting for the Tata's to launch the Aria. Even though they are totally different products M & M will price it in such a manner that they eat into the Aria's price bandwidth.

Hi Last week I was called by a person working for a research company (this person had apparently taken my survey when I bought my new car).

He told me that Mahindra was launching a new vehicle and they wanted people to test drive it to see what they can do to improve it by comparing it with otha models.

To the scene- It was in the Mahindra city and upon reaching there we learnt that it as just a survey for testing the seats as they are still working on the seats for the final production vehicle.

The cars for testing were - Toyota Innova, Chevrolet Captiva and the Mahindra W201. The Hyundai Santa fe was there but then someone had run the car over a bump at high speed and the clutch was now gone (well that was the reason given to us).

Now the test-

First was the Captiva - this I am sure a lot of people know about and is the tried and tested vehicle here.

Second the Innova - again tried and tested.

Third was the W201 - First impression from outside was WOW, awesome design, huge grill and WIDE tyres. The front bonnet was nice and sloping and the lights were completely something new thats ever seen on a Mahindra.

Get inside and the first thing noticeable is the fit and finish a complete disappointment but then again we were told that this is a pre production car and its just meant for testing so we have to wait and see how the real production car is going to be. The Interior design though was really eye catching. Especially the Ac vents which were a kinda of star shaped or Pentagon shaped which I have never seen before in any car. The speedo and the Rev counter had a nice touch to them. Right in the center of the speedo dial was the fuel gauge in digital form and the in the center of the rev counter was the temp gauge again in digital form.

The seats were wide and comfy compared to the Captiva which I felt was a bit narrow after driving the W201.

The Drive-

Turn the ignition and there are a host of lights that come up and you realise it has lights for ABS, ESP, Traction Control, and Airbags for both driver and passenger. Though I am not sure if these were working as I said this was a pre production vehicle.

The noise from outside was loud but that is also because we were inside a building which looked like a production line.

Anyway release the clutch and the vehicle moves quite well and smooth. Oh ya I realised when slotting into the first gear that the car has 6 forward and 1 reverse gear.

Getting out of the building and we were asked to go around like and obstacle course and I pushed the vehicle and it stayed planted on the road during a curve at 80+ speeds, I dint get the point of the 6th gear as I could put it into 6th only after I crossed 120kmph. The car felt good enough to reach 100 in about 15secs. This is approx figure as I couldnt get to take my watch to test it. Over bumps it really felt better than riding the Captiva over it but in pick up and refinement the captiva was ahead of the w201.

Once we reached back I got a chance to look under the hood of the w201 and I realised it was a transversely mounted engine meaning which its an AWD also I am not sure about this but I think its a 5cylinder engine. They had a provision to install a camera in the sides and under the chassis probably to record the vehicle movements over bumps.

Over I felt the vehicle is a good package if the fit and finish is improved. The vehicle dint loose out on power even once and it looked to be oround 150bhp though I am not sure of the figures.

If priced well when launched Mahindra Definitely has another winner in its hands.

P.s. I got some pics but dont know how to upload them. Can someone please help, thanks.

I totally agree with Jeepster. If anyone with common sense reads the whole thread, then it will be clear which vehicle it is. Yet, people keeps trying to make *intelligent* guesses as to which vehicle this is. I appreciate the mods efforts to keep quality of posts on this forum, but some of these speculative one lines are pure silly in my opinion.

What happens is that people don't read the thread. They just see the last picture posted or the last thing said on this thread and add something that makes no sense.

Looking at the latest scoops of the new mahindra, even i guess it will not be launched in the next 6 months atleast.

mahindras are known to extensively test their vehicles, remember the xylo?

I do very much agree with you on this. There is a Team Bhpian who drove the actual vehicle and provided pics. Still people keep on confusing it for murano. Murano is a soft-roader and smaller in dimension. It is even smaller or similar in size as Scorpio. Not a big one like Nissan Patrol or similar SUVs. But this Mahindra World SUV is bigger in dimensions than Nissan Murano. Also i couldn't remember seeing any day-time-running-lights in Murano as someone pointing this in the spotted testing mule.

Also, a common sense question: If Nissan plans to sell Murano (Its 2010 model is available in many countries and 2011 face lift model is in the cords, which is not like 2010 model), it will be a CBU, right? If Yes, Why do we need to test it under camouflage?

What you said is correct. But many people usually end up concluding without analyzing facts and write down that on forum. Like ACM mentioned, quality monitoring is keeping this forum stand apart from rest of the blogs.

As you said, i also feel for a CBU there is no need to test it under a camouflage.

OT : If nissan decides to make Murano here after seeing the success of Foretuner and price it well, we Indians are lucky as Murano is beautiful a vehicle.
