Let me tell you the story. Pawan Goenka did not waste a penny for exterior design. He simply walked around his office and gazed at the car wallpapers his guys put up in their desktops & laptops. So taking the bits and pieces of all desktop wallpapers, XUV500 design was accomplished. All he cared was for the interiors.

Front Grille inspired from Jeep Cheroke, as posted by someone else too. But they copied and overdid a bit.

I still like the car if priced similar to ARIA based on reports of handling and performance. Will have to figure out a way to remove some of the excessive grille job. Currently it feels like a fence gate

Count me in too .I think it looks imposing although the front bumper looks a little over done. I think pictures don't do justice to this beast . It has a very good stance and looks mean and masculine .

Oh boy - what a letdown! I always liked the Scorpio's looks, and thought the XUV will build on that......

Hope the drive and the rest maks up for the shoddy job on the frontal.. Rear - I think we will get used to it.. But the front - amen!

Maybe its one of those cars which look good in person. As far as pics are concerned, outright ugly! what kind of hideous looking front bumper is that? must be of some use, must be.

Though, I must say Interiors are 2 steps ahead for a mahindra!

I think the XUV can be "fixed" with an aftermarket grill and bumper.

Is it just me or Mahindra took the Ssangyong C 200 Concept (showcased in 2008)as the basic structure for designing the XUV 500?

Quirky yes, but I quite like it But yes...I agree the design chaps at M&M need to get their heads out of the gutter! Pardon my PS job, but here's my version of the XUV500 (Someone please make the kit!):

The front profile of Ssangyong C 200 Concept is beautiful No comparo here.

Iam going one step further to say I did n't like the interiors either. Too much bling, feels that those dials are on my face.
Those A/C vents look cheap.

Oh God! Bad front, tacky rear. Just when I thought this was going to be macho and a looker, Mahindra messed up! Could have been much much better! Well, it is still macho, BUT! Disappointed man.
Oh, and the screen display, that red thing is extremely in your face I feel.

This can only be described as a huge anticlimax, one doesn't want to pour cold water over all the hard work that has inevitably gone into this from all the various teams at Mahindra but it is clearly a good idea executed poorly.

Design is not Mahindra's forte and they should have got some outside help instead of relying on inhouse talent that is not in sync with today's expectations. The front grill is complete confusion, the whole car doesn't gel together, there are way too many inexplicable design choices.

Many of us were expecting a revolution which means there is acceptance for a well designed SUV from Mahindra in a new segment of buyers, which is a huge stride for Mahindra but they have lost an opportunity to raise their game. There is hope but it won't be the XUV, this is more in Mahindra tradition, for the game changer we have to wait longer.
