re: New Mahindra SUV for 2011 - Pics on Pg. 109 *UPDATE* XUV500 launched at 10.8 lakhs

I liked the looks, atleast in pictures that is. Called the guy in Mahindra showroom in Madivala/Silk board junction he said the SUV will be on display starting at 2 in the afternoon tomorrow, and sometime in the evening it will available for test drives. Me and my colleague are planning to hit the showroom tomorrow itself to see it in Flesh and Blood.

Eagerly waiting for the official Team BHP review of this one. For someone looking at buying an SUV and loves the looks of Fortuner and wants his SUV to serve him/her 10Years (or 100,000 Kms), and have low cost of ownership, which one would make more sense ToFo, or the new kid on the block. The other way to look at is for ~10L less on XUV500 (As compared to ToFo) what am i going to miss?

Re: New Mahindra SUV for 2011 - Pics on Pg. 112 *UPDATE* XUV500 launched at 10.8 lakh

The autocar review has given the XUV a thumbs up! Dimensions wise, it is slightly longer than the Scorp and almost equal to Innova. It is wider than both these vehicles. With a turning radius of 5.6m, it won't be a godzilla to drive in the city.

Re: New Mahindra SUV for 2011 - Pics on Pg. 112 *UPDATE* XUV500 launched at 10.8 lakh

The side view looks very "Outlanderish" but I really like the looks. However, seeing is believing.

Apparently the launch is happening for Chennai tomorrow. And It should be in the dealerships by tomorrow afternoon. Planning on going and seeing it in person.

As for the pricing- it looks pretty competitive, I think Tata will HAVE to launch the Merlin. I heard that 50 books have already happend, which is interesting given that the vehicle has just been released.

Any idea if the ABS option is there for all models or just the W8?

Didn't find legroom info, but a picture of the seat folded down on the official website. You may want it for reference.

Last row seems to match ditto to Aria. Surely not a real 7 seater just like Aria, could accommodate 2 young children.

Seems pretty much neck to neck with Aria interiors including the color combo too. But XUV500 should enjoy good market ride with the huge price benefit will make sense to many potential buyers going for Aria now.

Re: New Mahindra SUV for 2011 - Pics on Pg. 112 *UPDATE* XUV500 launched at 10.8 lakh

Scorpio : M2Di , EX , LX , SLE , SLX ,VLX , AT
Xylo : E2 , E4, E6, E8 , D2, D4
Verito : G2, G4, D2 , D4, D6
Bolero : DI , Plus , SLE , SLX, VLX , ZLX

So many variants for the previous products , and only two for XUV ?? i cant sort of digest it.. I hope they will soon roll out W2, W4 variants with prices going further down. Features ?? yeah can be compromised .. with that size and road presence , I just want my drive to just turn a few heads..

Re: New Mahindra SUV for 2011 - Pics on Pg. 112 *UPDATE* XUV500 launched at 10.8 lakh

I am sorry but the looks are plain disgusting. It gives a whole new meaning to being "over the top". It seems that they just couldn't stop designing, a line here, a crease there and then some more and even more.
Secondly, not many manufacturers around the world are able to do a monocoque SUV, they are mostly soft roaders. Remember this is first monocoque entirely from Mahindra so I have my doubts on the longevity, stiffness of the chassis.
Not too impressed with the pricing too - at 12.88 Lakhs Ex Delhi for the top end all wheel drive variant is expensive. If this is VFM pricing, Aria in my mind is priced well too.

Re: New Mahindra SUV for 2011 - Pics on Pg. 112 *UPDATE* XUV500 launched at 10.8 lakh

Mahindra seems to have gone overboard with the styling just like the name. And what is that thing under the front headlights? Is it a decal which can be removed or plastic?

However, the overall silhouette is very good. If M&M had restrained the design team a bit (maybe not 'a bit', but by a large degree), it would have come out a much better looking and elegant vehicle, just like the very first Scorp. Wonder what M&M will be up to for the XUV 500 face lift.

But that said, they have done absolutely brilliant on the pricing. They have made sure we can't crib on the name or the styling. Probably, another vehicle for GTO' game changer thread.

Disc brakes on all 4 wheels, ABS + EBD and driver & passenger airbags are standard on all 3 models [W6, W8-2WD, W8-4WD].

Side & curtain airbags and ESP with rollover mitigation comes only in the W8 [both 2WD & 4WD].

Cheers,
Vikram

Anyone on the ac vents?

As per the website it 235/65 R17 & I am assuming the AC vents are on the roof there is no mention of them in any pictures.

By the way, this is one heck of vehicle. Just booked my test drive, let's see how it fares. No intentions of buying it but, can't help not drive the cheetah

Thank god for the small mercies in life- or more to say the fact that the indian mfgs are realizing the need for safety equipment.

Killer Killer pricing !! Whatever brickbats Mahindra got on designing, it has sure more than overcome it by awesome pricing. Bye-Bye Aria/Merlin. If TML doesn't cut Aria prices by 1-2L, who is gonna buy it ?

if the dimensions are manageable in our crowded urban conditions it is a sure winner.

And my pal in M&M in Bangalore has pretty much confirmed that it is 15.2-15.3 on road Bangalore.

This is for the Top End 4WD version that is which comes with all bells and whistles.
Anyone confirmed bout the front discs? The official site also says all disc brakes, but no mention of whether or not the front ones are ventilated.

And before we all go gaga about the price, remember this is introductory. Mahindra are well known for the creep in prices.
