The third row is strictly for Kids, as per the various posts in this forum, and if the Knob is where the kids are, then that's a huge design error on the part of M&M, As with Kids and some elders too a switch / knob has to be played with...

I doubt it is Fuel Lid opening Knob. I hope you are wrong, if not its going to be hazards. As i feel it must be the Blower Knob for the 3rd Row passengers.
Zoom into the pic and you will a faint image of the fuel opener symbol.

That knob you see is not the fuel opener knob itself. You need to turn the knob, pull the plastic panel out and then there is some other mechanism that actually releases the fuel opener.

The blower know is on the right side, this is on the left above the 12V socket.

I don't see how the fuel lid opener will be dangerous with kids sitting in the 3rd row.

Agreed if there is Plastic Panel (Highlighted as 1) then a Mechanism to open the fuel Lid, its not a issue at all. I assumed that you rotate the Knob and the Fuel Lid would open.

Now If the knob would directly release the Fuel Lid, imagine how many time on a long drive the kid would end up opening it, and some time it would go unnoticed, resulting in mischief by other.

Coming to the Photo attached, what's the Highlighted point 2?

Vid has said, this knob opens the compartment and then there is a mechanism to open the fuel lid inside. This knob does not open it directly. It may not be too much of an issue and must be pretty secure.

In my earlier post, I have explained the positions of these. These are mostly the rear parcel tray slots alongwith the J grooves on the D-pillar.

Re: New Mahindra SUV for 2011 - Pics on Pg. 109 *UPDATE* XUV500 launched at 10.8 lakh

Did a quick Test Drive today. Overall impressions:

1. Interior quality better than expected.
2. Electronics worked pretty well. Navigation latched on quickly.
3. Was keen to test body control and handling and I was disappointed. Vehicle bobs sideways while attempting U-turns. Gear shifts are long and clutch action is a bit ponderous. Couldn't test its high speed cornering capabilities.
4. This is clearly not a car. If you are expecting car like dynamics (which I was) you might be disappointed. This is more like an Innova
5. Brakes were pretty sharp
6. Didn't exactly feel the 140 horses from the engine. Then again, I suppose it was a new engine and would have a few rough edges.

Cheers!

A similar system exists in the Scorpio as well the only difference being that its like a string which opens the fuel lid in case the electrical one fails.

This is an excellent move by Mahindra to update customers using extended CRM and not leaving much room for dealer's misusing the lack of transparency in booking vs delivery info!

Re: New Mahindra SUV for 2011 - Pics on Pg. 109 *UPDATE* XUV500 launched at 10.8 lakh

Just went to Zulaikha Motors in Velachery and they said that they have stopped taking orders for AWD. Interesting part is that W8 AWD comes only in few colors, namely White, Purple, Green, Grey and Black. No Silver and No Red. Only the W8 2WD comes in all colors. Even W6 comes only in Silver, Grey, Red and Black.

OTR Price in Chennai
W6 2WD is 13,13,087
W8 2WD is 14,51,908
W8 AWD is 15,64,172

Waiting period..... for those who have already booked is 4 to 6 weeks.

I wanted to book a Silver AWD.....

The same exists on the Scorpio as well. So, its not a new feature.

Thanks guys. Yeah, knew it was in Scorp with a string attached. But had not imagined it would exist here in this form, also got to do with the pic I took which was not making it clear as well.

Well no i haven't received any call form them till now. I think i would only have to call them as i want to know the exact on road price for W6. I was told that the call from mahindra will confirm this. Will update once i have this info.
I got this booked on 1st oct at Koncept Auto in lajpat nagar.

Yes its really nice to see this. I wish they would have mentioned the on road price as well. But no complains.

Now since the delivery is gonna be in mid December, hence i am thinking of getting it shifted to Jan, however as someone else mentioned this below, the price might be increased hence i could loose some money while doing so. I hope the increase is not more than 50-60K. If its more than this, then i would rather wait for it to come in Canteen (which i was told would be there by December itself) and buy it from there resulting in cool 1.5 lakhs savings. The only reason i am going from outside is just to get it asap as my old fiesta needs a replacement.
