This is an achievement if it really does handle like the Innova. For a MUV (innova) the handling is pretty good.

Re: New Mahindra SUV for 2011 - Pics on Pg. 109 *UPDATE* XUV500 launched at 10.8 lakh

Back after a XUV test drive at Sireesh Auto, Hosur road. Dealing with the sales guys there was a pleasant experience - all smiles & welcoming. They were quite apologetic that I have to wait for 20 min for the test vehicle, and the ladies were escorted to customer lounge, where soft drinks were served. They had 3 TD vehicles and I got the W8 version.

Pros:

1. Peppy & powerful engine with seamless power delivery. We were 5 adults and a kid in the car and it pulled effortlessly even from low RPM's.
2. Yes, could feel the turbo kicking in as it crossed 1500 RPM or so, but in a well mannered way...no surprises
3. Engine is barely audible unless in high RPM's
4. Good suspension, hardly any jostling of passengers
5. High driving position (coming from Civic it felt like driving from the second level of a double decker..!) :-)
6. Quite confident in turns, feels planted
7. The vehicle felt like a coherent unit, unlike any Scorpio or Safaris I have driven before
8. Mid-row occupants were comfortable, with the space...who will not be.
9. The music system worked well, decent sound out-put and the UI is intuitive.
10. Quite a head turner...novelty factor...!

Cons:

1. Steering feels disconnected, fair bit of 'play' as well
2. Notchy gearbox, you have to hunt for the gear slot. Moreover, had to reach for the gear lever, was not falling into the palm.
3. Soft brakes, much like T-Fort, not confidence inspiring
4. Poor plastic quality, doesn't have the 'built to last feel'.
5. The speakers are placed high and if you are used to the low placed speakers, which gives you a feeling of music in the 'background', the set up in XUV will have the speaker singing into your ears.
6. The centre console reflects on the windscreen. It is intrusive and will take a while to get used to.

Over all a mixed bag. Now if I was in the hunt for an SUV would I opt for it...the answer is YES. Considering that XUV is a wholesome (and handsome) package and unless one is critically inclined the cons above appear 'passable'. Which in fact it is, unless you are willing to shell out 3 times the price for something that offers all the bells & whistles that XUV offers and with better over all quality.

I would rather put that money in the bank and start research for my SUV after XUV...!

You can't seriously say that the middle seats have got good legroom ,they have at besst passable leg room for an SUV at that price, also the seats are quite small and offer very little under thigh support ,agree with you however on the plastic quality which is dissapointing

Re: Mahindra XUV 500 --First impressions

As I mentioned in the end of my review I sincerely hope they do well and it looks like they are but I also hope that they use this as a good launch pad and work on the plastics, cause don't forget this will be exported as well and for markets like South Africa which has cars from all over the world being sold there they need to improve plastics quality or price it such that it is comparalbe to being a 8 lakh car back home.....

The showroom was closed the customers were the ones who managed to get in before it shutters went down. Not to mention the list of people waiting for a test drive. I can hear sales registers ringing for Mahindra. Some so called influencers have called the XUV a fortuner competitor.

I went there (Sahyadri, Deccan) earlier today. They do not have any XUV on display - in fact, they are expecting one by 18 oct. Silver Jubilee is the best bet to lay eyes on a physical piece.

There was one gentleman ay Sahyadri who booked the XUV in front of my eyes. Got talking and found out he purely went by what he was told by people - hasn't looked at one personally. The SA mentioned a waiting time of 5-6 months!

For what it's worth (and OT), the 15 minutes I was in the showroom, nobody approached me as a potential customer. My Xylo purchase from there was not a good experience and looks like the customer focus is as before.

I don't know from from where you got this news but I would like to make a few points here:

- We try to make our official reviews as detail and concise as possible.
- We shoot extensively and select from them to give you what exactly needed.
- We go through every bit several times so that you get a clear distinct picture.

All these take some time before it reaches you for your comments. XUV's official review is coming up soon. Please wait and you won't be disappointed.

And lastly requesting you not to make unnecessary comments about moderators responsibilities.

Re: Mahindra XUV 500 --First impressions

Thanks for the welcome and yes every statement you have mentioned is very true ( and being a die hard TATA fan this makes it even more painful to admit) and knwoing that they have the cars that can do the job makes it more irritating at times but as one writer for Autocaar commented ( can't remember who) " As far as the car community in India goes it is divided into the Mahindra people and the TATA people who have tremendous respect for each other"....adn yes am waiting for the new Safari to replace my 9 year old warhorse the Safari 4x4 TCIC

I was reminded of that conversation when I read your post. You can certainly defend your statement that the Interior trim of the Safari \ Aria are better than the Scorpio \ XUV500... but from an overall perspective M&Ms offerings are perceived to have better quality \ reliability levels than competing products from TML. A large percentage of Scorio owners may well have opted for the safari had it earned a favourable reputation for reliability. Sure the price would have still swayed many buyers towards the Scorpio but I still think that in the first 4 - 5 years of head-to-head competition the Safari lost out to a greater degree on account of its low quality perception among the motoring public.

Our forum is rife with potential buyers willing to bet their money on the Safari even today if TML focuses on improving the overall quality of the platform (and engine ?)

Long story short is that most customers weigh the entire package and VFM equation and this is where TML has missed the bus in its UV\SUV\Crossover strategy.

For all its success in the CV & Pascar segment, TML has not maximized its potential in the UV \ SUV segment. Time and again.

Finally the M&M department have released their creative juices for the XUV. However the arch into the green house above the rear wheel and the arc below the rear windshield look odd. I don't quite buy the haunches of a cheetah look.

Are you sure about the cancellation thing. I was told that the cancellation after 15 days is only 1000 irrespective of the color. From which dealer you got this info?

I heard it from Sireesh Auto (Blr) that Green and Purple are special colors and the cancellation fee is 10K. For all other colors, it's 1000 rs.
