Renault Sandero by 2010!

Todays Times of India carries an article which states that Renault has decided to bring Sandero Hatchback to india. The car will be produced at Mahindra's Nashik facility and will be powed by 1.2 petrol and <1500 cc diesel.

I only wish they reconsider the 1.2 petrol and give us a 1.4 or 1.6 petrol version

One would be a touch apprehensive after Renault pulled back on its Chennai investment.

But as a product, the Sandero makes sense for Mahindra Renault. It shares a lot with its brother the Logan, has decent reliability, spacious and a whole lot better looking as well. With a sensible price tag, the Sandero can do the business against the Swift and the Vista.

Sandero atleast looks like a car in the present, and not like Logan which looks like car which came here to the Indian market 10yrs delayed. With this the premium hatchback segment will be the best segment, with competitions of the likes of Fabia, Jazz, Grand Punto and i20.

If M&M can keep the pricing right on this one...they'll strike gold...the car's perfect for India with loads of interior space & efficient engines.

But the interiors look Logan-ish which is not exactly a very good thing.

I hope it shares only parts - and not price / positioning - with the Logan!! Mahindra & Renault could not have goofed up with the Logans positioning anymore than they already did.

Just as the C sedan segment was an entirely new arena for Mahindra, so will the hatchback section also be. Mahindra has ZERO expertise with its customers, expectations, distribution and service requirements. I wouldn't be surprised if Renault handles the distribution / marketing themselves, but it would require mega investment....something that the current economic scenario may not permit.

Will they be able to price it competitively? Or is it going to be another low cost car thats priced not-so-low? After all, this is a market segment that is the MOST price sensitive.

The folks who have succeeded here have brought their best products, and maufactured here so the pricing is realistic.

Honda's brand value and success in India derives great deal from that. Now with feature packed cars launching the market is fast maturing and the pressure is even more, for Renault the Clio, Megane et all would make more sense.

We will already have Clio's contemporaries in the Punto, the i20, Jazz and Fabia. So how can Sandero be expected to compete with these. Its already looking dated. They should learn from the Logan low cost fiasco. There is a market here, its for them to get it right.

The hatchback segment is the most competitive segment in Europe with direct competition between Vauxhall/Opel, Ford, Renault, Peugeot and VW. Clio, Megane and the new Laguna are good products in the Renault stable. With the imminent launch of Golf sometime this year, Megane should make sense for Renault.

My favourite hatchback is the Vauxhall Astra VXR.

Sandero has a good shape and qualifies for a good hatchback.Im only worried abt the interiors which look like same as Logan.
My complaints with Logan:
Seat ergonomics compromised
Space for Front sears is congested
Dashboard looks outdates..need a sporty one.
Hope Sandero will be better in the above aspects.
