Fiesta Vs Linea Vs Verna - which is the best diesel?

What happened to the heart car - Dzire? I thought that was the best diesel around.

Ok if i wish to buy out of these three-
Verna first choice due to fantastic engine,however price has to be considered.
Linea second choice as VFM product inspite of weak engine.
Fiesta- Good car overall but now a very old car. Wont consider.

I think that Dzire doesnt belong to thie league considering the price and the segment...
But yes I agree its a terrific car..!

Indian car market is a funny one! Should we add Magnum to this thread (still under 10L bracket), we have Linea with similar external dimensions that of Magnum. One with 2.0 litre punchy engine & other with a punny engine.

See power to wt. ratios:

Linea : 86/ 1250 = 0.0688

Fiesta : 68/ 1150 = 0.059

Magnum : 120.5/ 1370 = 0.0879

Can anyone tell figures for Verna?

simple 110/1130 ( ABS version) = 0.0973

non abs

110/1100 = 0.1 !!!!

You are right. It's one of the best in the C-segment, though the looks are bad.

Many here are 'foreign-ego lovers' - they will not even talk about and list Indian flavoured cars (eg: Maruti, Mahindra, Tata), and will go gaga over Honda, Toyota, Ford and the like. They pretend to be power-hungry customers, but will end up buying one among Maruti and Tata. Otherwise, how these fans here for Fiesta and Verna are not transformed into sales? Why Maruti and Tata are selling C-segment cars like anything? If one is price-mileage conscious, there is no problem in admitting that.

The getz crdi is 1169 kg's, then how come verna is 1100?

The Fiesta diesel is rather under rated.
It may have only 68bhp on paper, but it makes useful torque early in the rev range, and ford have got the gearing ratios spot on.
I was dismissive of the car till I TDed it.
Till around 80kmph from standstill, if driven well, it will keep up with much more powerful cars. Nice overall package.
On a winding road, the verna will find itself in sweating a little trying to get away from the fiesta.
Main thing is- the fiesta is very entertaining to drive.

Verna will always be my favourite

Acceleration that is unmatched, with power all the way from 1800rpm to the redline. Its performance in a straight line compensates for everything else.

I think everyone here knows what I think about the Linea.

The whole verna experience for me has to be in the open spaces. It is just bliss when comes to the open road over taking is a charm with its turbo motor and in city it’s a great performer too thou it feels jerky when you punch it. Whereas the fiesta has maneuvering ability in close Connors but in stop and go situations it is poor, getting of red lights are hassle and even I don’t see any help arriving when you’re in trouble.

Well Dzire is a good car and I agreed to that..
But where are the sales figures from Tatas and Marutis in the 7-9 lakh segment...?

Which model.. SX4?
Total sales for 2008 17,250 units

Fiesta total sales for 2008 18304 units

Verna total sales for 2008 2497 units.

Its hard to find out any TATA car in this segment..

Fiesta all the way.
We own one for over 3 years and 45,000km.

Why?
- Better FE than Linea and Verna
- Much better to drive than the Linea and Verna
- Pretty powerful in the city. It might run out of steam on the highways, but for us, we generally take the more powerful cars on the highway.
- I personally liked the interiors much more than that of the Verna.
- Better pricing than the Verna. I would rather get a Fiesta ZXi than a Verna CRDi, without wheelcaps! I don't want to spend 9L on a car that looks like it has the equipment level of a maruti 800 to a bystander.

While the Verna might be bigger and better in a straight line, and the Linea might be the best all rounder, my primary use for the car is in the city and even on the highway, I have never driven over 120kmph (though we did touch 176kmph once in the fiesta).
My priorities are a fun to drive car, which is easy to manouvere in the city and decent power with good FE. I don't care about rear seat space (it's meant to be a self driven car, not a damned taxi) and it rides quite well too. The Fiesta fits that need perfectly.

However, suppose the car were to be a family car, i might choose the Linea.

Similarly, if I were looking at a self driven family car, I might choose the Verna and do all the upgrades, or even better would be to get a Magnum.
However, this is not a family car, but a self driven car and like an enthusiast, I would choose the car that I feel drives the best and fits my requirements the best.

It is easy to ask what people would choose between those 3, however, it would be guided by their requirements.

I have no experience with the LInea but I liked the Ford Fiesta's quality over verna's. verna's engine was powerful but NVH wasnt that great.

Also if you can live with a hatchback for the price, do look at the Ford Fusion just once.
