Hello madhokritesh,

You've copied and pasted the standard press release issued by MB and present on dozens of websites.
Even your pictures are taken from standard news sites.

You have quoted no source either.

This is all quite against TBHP rules, I think.

So, Can we expect Drastic price reduction of the imported CBUs (E, S etc)??

If it is so, than its time to party for all future customers of Merce.

If it happens, i just cant imagine the position of BMW guys.

A big and important step for Mercedes Benz India. The new E Class and all future models should be assembled here. What I am keen to see if there will be a difference in the quality of the product from this plant. For the better of course.

I dont think BMW will be a worried lot. They are already doing very well for themselves despite entering India after a Decade than Mercedes.

Nice - very nice ! So do we expect a drop in prices anytime soon ? I am thinking E 280 CDI .

Time will come when everything in the stable will be made here. I am waiting for that to happen. Rationale in prices & service. The sooner the car companies learn the better for them

Cheers

E class won't change. I think they are just shifting from TATA's premisis to their own. Look forward to a wider range at CKD prices.

Mercedes all set to roll out new products

source:Mercedes-Benz to roll out city buses, 3-axle coaches-Pune-Cities-The Times of India

PUNE: Luxury automobile-maker Mercedes-Benz India Ltd plans to introduce buses and three-axle coaches in the Indian market. The company also

plans to involve Pune in its global-shared services network by setting up an engineering team in the city.

Mercedes-Benz India MD-cum-CEO Wilfreid Albur said on Tuesday that the company has sold 20 units of the buses to Indian fleet operators so far for an approximate cost of Rs 90 lakh per bus.

The city coaches and three-axle vehicles for intercity travel will be introduced in the second phase of the company's bus manufacturing programme. The buses are under consideration, Albur said, but did not elaborate.

Company sources said talks are on with various municipalities in the country and the design of the new buses will be finalised according to the response received. Mercedes-Benz manufactures two versions of the buses those with 48 seats and 36 seats. The newly-developed buses will vary in capacity, depending on the outcome of the interactions, sources said.

Commenting on the probable introduction of the buses, sources indicated that it would be done some time in the next 18 months.

The company inaugurated its new plant at Chakan on Tuesday. It will manufacture C class, E Class and S Class luxury cars, and heavy-duty truck Actros here. Albur said the company has set up an engineering team at the Pune plant, which will work in co-operation with its global-shared service and research and development team based in Bangalore.

He said the company will use the Pune facility to make products for the Indian market and there is no immediate plan to make cars for export. Similarly, the present volume of production will not justify setting up of an engines and powertrain manufacturing unit in India. "We will need to make 1,00,000 engines and 2,50,000 transmissions annually to justify investment in such facility and we think it will be long time before we make any move to make engines in India," Albur said.

Joachim Schmidt, chairman of the board for Mercedes-Benz India, said India is a growth story, despite the slowdown. India has grown 40 per cent for the company when other Asian markets, such as Vietnam, Malaysia or Thailand, have grown about 10 per cent," Schmidt said

The old MB facility didnt have an inclusive paint shop. MB used to get its cars painted at Tata Motor's paint shop. Whats the arrangement in the new plant ?
Otherwise its just an unplug - move - plug again arrangement for MB. They already had flexible manufacturing capabilites in their plant.

You are right, earlier due to limited space MB India used Tata's paint shop, they used it mainly because Tata's paint shop wad adjuscent to the MB's plant which was in one corner of Tata's paint. They just had to take the painted body parts in a tractor-trailer.

But now they have their own in house paint shop.

Lately, I am seeing quite a few cut and paste jobs pasting verbatim from company's press releases. The problem seems to more in `International Automotive Scene', originates from 1-2 members, and pertains to certain reputed European luxury car makers. Go through that section and you will get a better idea. What goes???

These trucks are restored by Tata Motors as a honour to one of the first trucks rolled out by Tata-Benz in India.
