Mitsubishi Carisma undergoing ARAI trials

HM is on the verge of introducing the Carisma from Mitsubishi in India. Its Currently undergoing ARAI trials, the Carisma Elegance will come with threeoptions – the 1.9 Di-D,1.6 Elegance Manual, and 1.6 Elegance Automatic with the INVECS-II AT .

The Carisma is expected to cross around the Rs. 11 lakh mark in India.

Found this on ET ....

I think their could have done much better and tried to offer more VFM for the indian consumer...11 lakhs for a 1.6 petrol or 1.9 direct injection diesel could be asking too much considering this is corolla and octavia territory....another blunder by HM?

Maybe. There might be a few people who look at the Mitsubishi as a 'Japanese' performance car and a worthy alternative to the Corolla and the Octavia in terms of prestige. But these may be too few and far between. Toyota > Mitsubishi anyday.

Performance and Mitsubishi have been synonymous...atleast with the lancer and pajero....

But with this....at 11 lakhs it's getting in the ring with the corolla 1.8 vvti....what chance does it stand....

Any company that has shown a commitment to the Indian consumer has reaped the rewards of that commitment....see suzuki, hyundai, tata, honda....and on the other hand see rover, peugeot, mitsubishi, sipani....

the indian consumer has come of age and understands a good deal when he gets one....besides the showroom salesmen do all they can to mark down a rival product....when will these guys learn Indians aren't desperate and that we have the luxury of options now....

Maybe you and I have come of age. I do not think that is the case with a lot of our country men. But yes a manufacturer who is proactive and puts forward a good value proposition will go far. best example is Hyundai, even though IMHO their products are not always upto mark.

Mitsubishi Carisma - one of the most unappropriately named cars in the world. Reports from magazines all over the world say that this is one of the worst offerings from Mitsubishi. HM really don't need this model if they want to get out of the red.
You'll be much better off buying a Toyota or Honda offering.

They need to target 4 of the most important things if they want to sell the car to any Indian.
That is Looks in which it fails miserably, FE in which i dont think it will be a segent leader, VFm dept. in which no one will stop laughing at their price and good interiors which is also NIL.
What they need to do is give the car to DC to redesign (For the name, not design), improve the looks of its interiors and make it more cheerful, launch the 1.8 manual and auto with ABS, Airbags and some other stuff and only then will it be a success.
I am talking at a price point of 11L for all this.

Old HM modus operandi strikes again - buy cast off mediocre car design for a bargain - launch it here - expect the world to ooo and ahh

hey pal, never said they werent loyal...just that the focus is not on building a serious brand and more on short term return.....mitsubishi is the brand whose value is being eroded and not HM....atleast the masses see HM and Mitsubishi as two separate entities....in fact this callousness is visible in the shoddy build quality of the more recent lancers....and the extreme speed with which they have new launches and upgradations...

it just makes it so much easier for the competition....
