Polo with DSG is a probability.

Next year will be nice time for small car buyers.

"The German engineers have used the lessons learnt from the Seat Ibiza (which is built on the very same floorpan) which in turn means it is 8 percent lighter than its predecessor and has a range of yummy powerplants including a hot 1.2-litre TSI turbocharged gasoline engine mated to a seven-speed DSG (dual clutch) gearbox as is fitted on the company's Passat and Jetta models. This engine develops 105bhp but sips just 5.5 litres of fuel over 100 kilometres in the European combined fuel consumption test making it a sure shot Toyota Prius humbler! Of course this will not be available in India to begin with, another 1.2 litre mill with 60bhp on tap with a 157km/h top speed potential and the same 5.5-litres per 100km fuel efficiency should be the base powerplant."

Somehow I feel this is what Indica vista should have aspired for instead of rehashing the old indica . No doubt this car looks superb and will definitely be on must buy list for a lot of people provided VW gets it *** right

Would it be really affordable? Unless localization is increased and maintenance costs are reduced, it would just be a dream for many to own a VW however cheap (for them) they might price it.

And by the way, the Tata Indica EV mentioned in one of the articles on this thread costs 25000 GBP equivalent in Norway.

Volkswagen will be success in India , that's my guess. With the chakam plant near pune they are serious about foraying into the Indian market. Polo will have good amount of localization and will be priced logically when it comes. Also the New fabia will be coming from the new plant from May onwards.

Hmm, TSI 105PS engine means the six speed manual gearbox in tow?

engines launched:

1.2 litre 3 cylinder petrol, 59/ 69 bhp versions

1.2 tsi 4 cylinder turbo petrol, 102 bhp

1.4 petrol, 84 bhp, 4 cylinder petrol

1.6 crdi diesel 4 cylinder, 74/ 89/ 104 bhp versions

can anyone help in analysing which engine can be expected for our market?

I think I am now skeptical about my earlier post regarding availability of 1.2 tsi petrol keeping the price conscious market in mind and also the servicing costs of a technically complex small capacity turbo petrol, that to with a direct injection and an obscenely high compression ratio.

FSI will allow higher compression ratios and leaner burn without requiring high octane petrol. Much better part throttle mileage too. This is what is letting them quote figures like 9L/100KM for the 3.2FSI in the A4.

I thought you had solid info on the 1.2TSI's availability.

If they decide to play it safe, the 3 cylinder 1.2 and maybe one of the BlueMotion diesels can be expected.

Holy Molly!
The first turbocharged petrol small car in the country. I love VW!
Edit : Sigh...

This is a little underpowered nahi? But there are chances
that this will be launched. India is the land of underpowed
hatches and sedans.

Isn't the TSI turbocharged AND supercharged? I think those engines are very fussy about the quality of petrol that goes in them. That, and the high cost of the technology would probably make it very unlikely to land in India within the next year or two.

Although if VW did launch a Polo 1.2 TSI I would immediately buy one, eyes closed!

IMO, 1.2 liter 69 bhp petrol engine and 1.6 liter 89 bhp diesel versions will be launched in india in the beginning.

Later, maybe an overpriced 1.2 tsi engine would be offered, featuring sports equipment.

cheers

+1 to that - In the absence of the golf, a turbocharged polo hot hatch will do

the petrol is too underpowered and the diesel is too diesel - i just hope that they launch the sport tc'd petrol variant !!

Also remember that the 1.2 TSI is just the fastest of the regular Polos. Within a few months VW will also unveil the Polo GTi, another variant that will never reach India. The outgoing Polo GTI has a 160bhp turbocharged 1.8L petrol engine (must be quite similar to the one in the Octavia RS).

Just curious to know if anyone here would buy a 160bhp Polo for about 12 lakhs?

(I would)
