But dear.. the Xenon is at the end of the day a light commercial pick-up designed for load lugging despite what the media/marketing team calls it. Normally the interiors of such a vehicle is designed for robustness rather than finish.

IMHO the Xenon is the most balanced pick-up in India.

let the product launch and then talk about the broken dashboard or poor plastic if there are any at all.

ps:the car could very well have a fiat heart so no question about it being crude!
Let us see if they are coming out with the first car which Doesn't have panel gaps.

Is is just an image drawn or the mock up car itself?

Both are images taken from the Web.

I saw an Insignia on the road when it occurred to me that the Prima looks similar as well. I haven't seen the Prima in the flesh, hence have no idea of the size, but somehow from the pics, it looks like there are quite a few borrowed styling cues (lines/angles). That was why I put up both pics and asked for views. Didn't realise it'll resurrect a thread!

concept car looks promising and something tata has not delivered so far in this price range to compete with honda's ,toyota's and all.surely once in production tata would give it superb pricing for sure to bang market, lets see what offers us then.

Infractions: 0/2 (8)

fit and finish execution is always a problem with these vehicles when they come to real life from the concept stage

I would rather wait and see.

also, it is never easy for any manufacturer/ brand to upgrade itself from being a "mass manufacturer" to a "class manufacturer".

even taking the case of Toyota in the international market they were viewed largely as a maker of inexpensive, reliable vehicles. they had to create the brand Lexus to tearaway from this image.
Same case with Honda who had to re-badge their upmarket or affordable luxury offering with the Acura brand.

Tata's are known in general for affordable, reasonable cars - largely for the entry level, middle class and taxi operator market. If they suddenly pop up with a luxe offering from the same stable it is bound to be met with a bit of skepticism atleast until it proves itself.

Same goes for Suzuki Kizashi and Chevy Cruze - I would rather wait and watch.
But the above consumer marketing led logic would still hold good I believe.

This is indeed niche and lifestyle vehicle at no point Xenon was positioned as luxury. This is comment is exactly what happens when Sedan / Hatch drivers see a 4WD

Which other vehicle is sold with 4X4 , 140 BHP engine with such huge Ground clearance with a flat bad and double cab for less then 10 Lakhs ?

Please look up meaning of niche in the dictionary and decide

my answer is the scorpio getaway!!! almost 3 month old post you quoted
anyways the xenon is not even a true off roader. As mentioned by others it doesn't have the H and L options during 4wd.
well who said im only a sedan/hatch driver ive driven plenty of 4wd vehicles
nowadays even 4 lac rupee cars have better interiors then it.

may be 3 months old but nothing has changed in these 3 months.
About Scorpio getaway it is 2.6 CRDE engine and power is not comparable and availability of 4 WD getaway is like a mirage. I suspect that it is sold even lesser then Xenon and both of them are niche.

Who are those other who mentioned this ? statements in the bold do not gel well Please go and check a 4WD Xenon firsthand it has same Borg-warner electric shift as in Safari and Scorpio 4WD.

Xenon or getaway is not sold of interiors by the way this is a lifestyle pickup category has what a 10 -14 lakh scorpio or safari does not have.

Check 2 ownership threads of Xenon here on T-BHP and for 4WD capabilities or test drive one.

Guys we are going OT here. Any update on the launch of TATA Prima???? Guys at the dealerships do not have the slightest idea about this car. A certain few mentioned the probable engines to be plonked in the prima would be the Tjet, the 1.6 MJD or the detuned and despecced 2.2ltr diesel. A revert from the tata team did mention a 2011 launch with a 2ltr engine.

Any reliable sources who can confirm this??
