Also I think Tatas should had named the base variant as an AX or something. The 'base' version tag clearly points to its bargain basement positioning.
With only 3 options, Tatas are clearly trying to limit demand among first time car buyers and people looking to upgrade over from a 2 wheeler. I see more options coming up over a period of time that would look to move the car up on the value chain. Those versions could well target buyers looking out for second car that can serve as a city runabout.
Finally kudos to Tatas for the vision and its engineers for their persistent determination for this effort.
I'm definitely looking for this as a city runabout, especially after it comes out in a diesel. one with some good interiors etc.

I think we should take this discussion on RE-RWD cars elsewhere, but this statement is way off - please recheck facts (unless you meant the other way around).

Its is the other way round. i-car is a LWB For2 with 4 doors and was conceived when Mitsu was under the Daimler umbrella.

Different tyres at front and rear

Can one change the front tyres to match the rear and also put in a spare? Will that affect the dynamics?

fixed tail gate

How does one load the luggage?

Nano Details on MSN India

Has MSN taken the details from Sid's scoop at Team-BHP?

ALL THAT YOU WANTED TO KNOW ABOUT THE NANO

The Tata Nano will initially be available in three models — the Nano (base model), the CX (mid-level model) and LX (top-end model)
  • The cost of the base model will not exceed Rs 1 lakh (ex-factory, Pune)
  • Booking forms will be available at SBI, Westside, Croma stores and, of course, 400-odd Tata Motors dealerships
  • Booking forms will be available for only 14 days
  • Nano merchandise, including Nano phones and watches, will be marketed through various outlets
  • To begin with, only the petrol engine version will be available. The 624-cc two-cylinder petrol engine with a single balancer shaft (to avoid excessive vibrations) will have four valves. It will develop 35 bhp at 5,500 rpm and 4.8 kgm of torque at 3,000 rpm
  • The Nano should crack 60 kph in eight seconds and will have a top speed of 105 kph
  • The Nano will be available in BS II and BS III variants
  • The Nano will weigh 600 kg without load
  • The Nano will have only one spare tyre and it can be used to repair only the front tyres, since the rear tyre is of a different size. However, the car can be driven slowly even after a puncture (and should be repaired as soon as possible)
  • The Nano will have four forward gears and one reverse gear
  • The Nano will have a 15-litre fuel tank. With an expected mileage of slightly over 20 kpl, a full-tank will take you over 300 km
  • Only the driver’s seat will be adjustable in the base model
  • The Nano CX model will have air conditioning with a heater
  • The LX model will have power windows, central locking and fog lamps
  • The Nano will come with a warranty of 18 months or 24,000 km

They have quoted the source as Business Standard. Probably BS, did some BS and flicked the data from TBhp

10 lakh is quiet optimistic and unrealistic as well. I do not feel Nano will have such hoge demand. Also how is TATA planning to get Nano serviced. There service centres are already full most of times and Nano will create chaos there.

First Display car dispatched

Got these pictures through email. Seems to be the first display car, dispatched to showroom from Utharakhand.
(Mods: Since I am not the original owner and I received these pics by email, not sure whether these should be bookmarked.)

There is. The left one is missing.

The car is all about affordability. You start adding such 'essentials' and the price creeps up some more. The intended market won't care. In many Indian cities you can't even use the drivers side ORVM because it gets damaged by traffic coming from the opposite side!

sorry about the directions!!

But then when a person can afford the top end of the car, I guess he can afford his left ORVM also. My 2 Cents!!
