Thanks a lot for the info. I have a couple of queries.

1: There are a few cars which have regn nos such as UDF-XXXXX or something like that. Are they temp regn ?
2: In Delhi, C stands for Cars, but there are cars which have nos such as DL 2F. Any significance for the same ?
3: Some Rajasthan vehicles have nos such as RJ 3M 12 3456 or something similar. Any idea about the terminology here ?

In south, it was MDx,MSx,MAx for Madras State and MYx,MEx,MRx for Mysore state.
Ideas for north?

Bit off topic: The one in my avatar picture is a Chevy (late 1950s) MSZ regieration, was owned by Actress Saroja Devi. I took the picture 2 years back.

MAx and MRx are Maharashtra numbers. If im not mistaken, MRx series was only Bombay.

If am correct, this is a temporary number assigned to the vehicle and in all probability the owner might have purchased it in Chennai and would be registering it in a different state. I had a friend of mine who purchased his bike in Chennai, had a temp registration and took it with him to Delhi.
