1.3L it is....

Maruti Suzuki Swift

Maruti is India's most succesful automobile company, and

Suzuki recently acquired a controlling stake in it. The Swift will be Maruti's first radical,

contemporary vehicle. The company has always preferred to play it safe, and has

introduced tried-and-tested vehicle models from the Suzuki stable. The Swift is based on

Suzuki's famous Concept S design unveiled at teh 2002 Paris Auto Show, and will be

launched in India with the reliable Maruti Esteem's (an older Suzuki Swift version) 1300 cc

petrol engine in India.

this other website says swift could come in both 1.3L or 1.5L engine ..

I seriously doubt whether there will be a 1.5L engine.. It will be a totally new engine which Maruti dont have in their stable and the cost implications of building a new one will be quite high..

Can see the cost cutting - wheels look puny

minimalistic interior looks minimal cost - look at the plastic around the gear lever. Judgement reserved till I see the car in the metal

This is definatly the best Indian car website i have ever seen. Only drawback is the loading time is pretty slow...even though the connections here in america r quick as hell, it yet was slow for me...can only imagine how slow it must be from india.
Seems like they r marketing the car with an upmarket feel to it. Imo this is going to be the best small car in india, even though i am not a maruti fan this one just captured my fancy.

p.s how did you manage to find the site..

montoya, i recently got my hands on the official specs; here goes...

power- 87 bhp@6000 r.p.m
torque- 113 nm @4500 r.p.m
ignition- distributorless, ddl-i (akin to the baleno)
wheels- 14" dia, alloy (zxi version)
tyres- 185/70 tubeless
performance-n.a
features:
electronic rack-mounted power steering
ABS, EBD, twin airbags-front ( zxi)
electronic instrumentation
HVAC with climate control
seat-belt pretensioners
remote central locking and hatch release
auto-control central locking.

the only things that are missing from the european versions are;
15" wheels,
dash- in-built cd-player( stereo is present though; not clear as an option,or standard),
engine options,
split-folding rear seats,
third head-rest for the rear bench,
multi-information display (like in the corsas and sails),
power mirrors (maruti could offer it as an option in the zxi)

Hey veyron thanks alot.

Well as far as 15 inchers go i have them n my mind hehe. But common MID and power mirrors should be there. And i guess so that the Swift will have in dash CD player after seeing the website.

ummm...what's MID, mate..?? (well, if it stands for Multi Information Display, then sorry, buddy; the gadget only displays time, and the real thing won't be available here in india...)

and yeah, the sony system that the site is showing just might be offered on the production model...

and i have the 15 inchers in mind too, but it might prove to be a li'l expensive ( 35,000+, including the rims and tyres).... besides, i've already booked the most expensive zxi version, and it comes with alloys as std., so upgrading to 15" depends upon the car's existing ride & handling package...and not to mention the looks...

hahahahaha....good one, mate...oops- did i forget to mention that i had already booked one about a week and a half ago??? sorry, dudes....

and i also forgot to add this to the features list; rear defogger, wash/wipe, tinted glass, etc. etc.....

p.s- if maruti goes on to price the swift zxi at 5.0+, then i am going in for the baleno vxi- the main reason for going in for the swift is the persuasion of my dad- i chose all our earlier cars, and he argued that this is his chance now.... but if the swift is overpriced, then i win, and there comes the baleno.....

instead of the 1.5 litre engine with variable valve timing and lift, there are talks of launching with 1.6L baleno engine, which should be pretty interesting.....
