Govt Vehicles being used for personal needs!!!

I was watching "Poll Khol" (hosted by Shekar Suman) the other day and a was amazed to see the number of government vehiclaes doing duty at market places, outside movie halls etc.

And, most off those cars were Ambys. That explains the 21% increase in it's sales. After all, our mantris would need atleast 5 govt vehicles to cater to the needs of all their family members.

I mean, don't they earn enuf to be able to buy a personal car for all these things? And it's not like they pay for the car, fuel or the services.

forget politicians...they are anyways a lost cause. you need to see the abuse by the government servants. now that is sure to get your blood boiliing.

just walk around navy nagar and check out use of government vehicles by navy hot shots's families for shopping, movies etc. additionally, depending on the rank of the officer, there may be additional vehicles/personnel for "security" so that his family may shop or watch a movie in peace.

also, PSU hotshots. thats taking it to another level of obscenity altogether. I've got first hand examples of massive abuse which I see happening day in and day out.

and to think all that is funded by money the government robs off me by way of taxes entirely disproportionate and unfair. its enough to drive you to drink.

Hi.dost this is for our so called BRIHAN MUMBAI NAGAR PALIKA which is supposed to be the biggest and greatest corrupt department in this world full of all sort of ROUGS in disguise of officers and clerks and peons also like WATER,SHOP ESTABLISHMENTS,FACTORY ACT,LAND REVENUE ACT, BIRTH AND DEATH RECORDS ETC ETC . You may expect a ordinary peon also with extended hand for bribe if someone goes to collect a death certificate. After the Mumbai deluge in 2005 july 26 some JOKER from this BMC thought of buying number of Mahindra Scorpio vehicles and writing on them DISASTER MANAGEMENT SCHEME VEHICLE which meant that the vehicle will be used in caseof water logging, helping people who get stranded , touring the waterlogged areas etc. First of all who told these stupid chaps that Scorpio is a amphibian vehicle. Now the main topic is that these vehicles purchased in 2005 were decorated by ward officers according to their wishes, these vehicles have dark coloured film on glasses, have music system, some even have wide tyres, over and above you will find their wife and children and reletives travelling in them and being driven by a BMC driver doing overtime with twice salary on a sunday, all on our MUMBAI TAX PAYERS ACCOUNT.I am yet to see these vehicles actually used in monsoons after 2005 they are either stored safely in garages of BMC or parked at any of those babus homes.

Govt vehicles are allowed to be used for personal use, but the officer has to pay the government a per-kilometer charge (in 1999, I remember it was Rs. 3 per kilometer, which was more than the actual per-kilometer cost).

The driver has to maintain a separate private-run log-book (or mark the official run log-book with a different coloured ink). The officer has to sign the same.

Kilometers covered under private run are deducted from the officer's salary.

Not sure about the rules for people holding political offices, though.

The point is: seeing a govt vehicle being put to use for private purposes does not prove anything

Well Govt vehicles with Babu's have always been used for private purposes. I'm neither condoning nor approving of the practice. Just like senior executives of private companies enjoy fully paid up company car, its the same here. Government cars are not allotted to every babu but only to very senior ones in the ministry, positions which they would have gained by virtue of hard work over the years. Its a perk that is associated with the Pay grade.

Btw I'm sure all of us sometime or the other would have done utilised company resources for personal benefits (howsoever small). So why so much of hue and cry.

As regards to the Armed Forces, I'm absolutely in favour on being officers these kind of perks considering the things that they have to put up inspite of measly salaries e.g.: A Major in the Army with about 10 years of experience only earns about 35-38k/Month.

Sorry for the rant, but thats how I feel.

As I reside nearby to Police lines in Delhi, which is an official area of policemen flats.

One can see Police gypsies and ambassadors whole day long fleeting some private persons or getting day groceries loaded into boot. One can also easy catch up such cars loaded up with family personals of some police babus in near-by local markets like kamla nagar and model town.

Top of all the character can be understood when these vehicles are parked in such way in between of rushy market wherein they are obstacing to ongoing traffic very much.

hehe... you noticed now?

well, IMO, it's the least of our worries compared to the other stuff they do.

When will they think more of the country and less of them selves like they are supposed to?

Can't help but remember the incident reported about S Nijalingappa, former karnataka CM and INC president.
He asked his wife not to travel along with him saying the car is given to him for official purpose

As far as i know - Govt servants (in particular ranking) are allowed to use the Government cars for considerable personal use. This is one of their perks they get from the Government.

But the definition of "Considerable Personal Use" varies from person to person.. thats the problem..

Government servants can use their offical cars for private purposes provided the governement servant is sitting in the car.But its a common practice among all the departments and alomsot every officer does it so nobody really points out.I have pilot and escort attached to my dads cars and while travelling out station i often take the pilot even when i travel alone. I dont really approve of this but then its one of those cases where if you have a facility mite aswell use it.But i always carry a PSO when i am travelling outstation. In station it makes no sense and is more a showoff then a requirement.
As far as politian is concerned there is almost no limit to the amount of fuel they can put in their offical cars because they have the reason/excuse of going back to their constituency as and when the need arises.

Army brat

I was sure a thread like this would be here, and it indeed is.

This morning I had a heated argument with a brat driving an Army Gypsy. Yes a fully fledged ARMY GYPSY and not a Army restored to civilian gypsy. This happened in the Wellington area at 7AM. I was on my way up an incline on a small narrow road. This road leads to a main road. While I was almost up the incline, this guy came zooming down the road and bang in front of me. I swerved and almost missed to hit the parapet wall. The guy also swerved onto the grass, hurled an abuse and left.
I turned the vehicle on the main road and left after him and stopped him up ahead. The guy was in his early twenties and looked like he was on his way back from the Gymkhana club after tennis.
I got down and the rest as follows
Me: What the f%$# did you say?
Him: You should have come slow.
Me: Get out of the vehicle. What did you say.
Him: Nothing. I just reacted as you came out of nowhere.
Me: You react that way to your parents who have given you this vehicle and not me.
Him: Watch your mouth man.
Me: @#$%&@#$ , break your bones, and all stuff.
Him: I have nothing to loose if I had hit you.
Me: Thats what you think, my vehicle is still here. Hit it if you have the @#$%.
Him: Move the vehicle or I need to call my dad.
Me: Call him.
Him: acts like he searching for mobile and then looks at me again.
Me: Call your dad, I will sort it out with him. Give me his number.
Him: Sitting dumb.
Me: watch what you say while you are driving and don't drive like a moron, and to top it you are using a Govt vehicle.
Him: I came slow, and i saw you all of a sudden. I am sorry.
Me leaves after a little bit of @#$%$# again.

I am normally very cool on the road and this really got at me. Firstly because he came straight at me and then abused me and left without even apologizing. I am not a road rage fan and was irritated by this guys attitude and moreover he was driving something he was not authorized to.

Thought I share this with you guys. Another instance of an official vehicle in the wrong hands.
