1.4 TJet is getting launched in Feb-Mar 2010. However the plans of 1.6 MJD launch is delayed and may not happen till late 2010.

According to ACI, the 1.6 MJD uses GM gear box and Fiat is in the process of replacing it with one of its own. Obviously in India they don't want to launch with a gear box that will be phased out soon, so they will be waiting for the new FIAT designed gear box to be made available to them, which will certainly delay the launch schedule for 1.6.

Wonder if Maruti will be able to get its hands on 1.6 diesel engine for SX4 ahead of Fiat India.

Had a talk with fellow TBHPians last saturday during our TBHP TVM Meet about this. A point I overlooked, 1.6 or 1.9 on the Linea would make it costlier coz of the tax regulation.

But, coz now the Manza had the same engine as in Linea, it will be wise for Fiat to bring in a bigger engine. My bet is it has to be the 1.6 not the 1.9.

+1 to jkdas. If Fiat is thinking of providing the same one to Maruti, they might want to have it on their car as well. A year after the launch of Linea/Punto respectively will be ideal time frame for Fiat to introduce improved power plants. Is the 1.9 same as the one that does service on Palio or is it a new engine?

Fiat is not a volume producer of car I am not sure given there current volume of 2500 cars a month they are already supporting 3 engines between Punto & Linea along 8 interior trims this is hell of a logistics on top of that there are rumours of 2 addtional enginer options and another interior trim also . This is more complexity than possible compared to rivals . Let them do what they are doing with better fit and finish and yes better marketing also .

The one on the Palio was a 1.9 NA engine. The one that might be coming for Linea is a 1.9 JTD engine(Multijet)

The Auto-Expo can't get here soon enough, can it?

I wish they would put all the debates to rest. A TATA-Fiat dealer told me that the 1.6 MJD could be seen doing service in the Linea by next year.

Yet, I keep hoping it'd be the 1.9 Multi Jet. Great stuff, that engine is.

The 1.4 T-Jet would make the Petrol version a hot-seller too!

I am just scared by the ineptitude of Tata servicing engineers with handling the T-Jet.

Que sera sera, I guess.

The 1.9-litre engine will zip to 60mph in just 9.2 seconds on the way to a top speed of 124mph. Something to take on the Optra and the Cruze then.

A jump from 1.3 to 1.9 is a big dream which should come with big price tag. Wont make sense for common people.

1.9 MJD FIAT could make the Cruz, Optra, Ocatvia loose some of their rightly claimed shine.
1.9 MJD would be a full measure rather than the half measures that FIAT has been adopting till now. It may not sell much would put the car beyond the competetion as far as VFM is concerned even with say a 75k Increase in Price.

I was told by one of the reputed TATA-FIAT dealers on the Punto launch day in Pune that Linea will come in 1.9 MJD avtar with auto tranny. He was not sure about the manual transmission with the same engine.

A 1.9 MJD will not be placed at *just* 75k more. You are placing the car in a totally different segment.

People shopping for Altis and Cruze want good interiors and gadgetry. Most do not buy the car for power.

The Linea with its current interiors would find no place in the segment and will end up as yet another Fiat misfit.

If the 1.9 is somehow priced at just 75k more, it'll make things really interesting.
