From the discussion I had with the Fiat guys during my factory visit. A few points to note from the discussion

Linea definitely coming with the 1.6 MJD hopefully VGT

Punto diesel will be replaced by the 1.3 VGT.

Punto Sports version to be launched with 1.4 T-jet and 1.6 MJD.

However they did not give a time frame for the launch. But I saw the test vehicles in the factory

OT: Bravo not coming anytime soon due to the cost factor.

If this indeed is the time frame for the launch, then there are a few positives:
[refer: http://www.italiaspeed.com/2008/cars.../tech_spec.pdf for complete details]

01. Fiat India may not have time to perform additional detuning in India. If performed, it may well be limited only to ECU.

02. It may retain the international 1.6 gear box / ratio: 6 Speed

03. It is a FTG and not a VGT.

04. The 120 bhp - VGT maybe reserved for the Dual Logic auto tranny.

05. The international spec, FGT does a 0-100 dash in 11.3s, top speed: 187kmph, torque: 290Nm@1500rmp

06. The international spec, VGT does a 0-100 dash in 10.5s; top speed: 195kmph, torque: 300Nm@1500rmp

07. The difference between the VGT and FGT, at least on paper can be easily covered with an ECU upgrade. If the gear ratios are not tampered with, then 0-100 dash will also improve.

08. This engine also has the longest service interval among MJDs: 35,000kms!

New Puntolooks really cool bit I doubt they will upgrade the car so soon on the other hand looking at the likely competition in Next Navratra season with Ford Small car , polo , Micra everyone jostling for space Fiat will have to stand out

Now that will be a very hard temptation to resist. Two punto's in a garage, may be.

Man, this is bad. Those who buy the car when it is launched get a inferior product, while those who don't want to risk buying a newly launched car get a good product.. I meant the newly launched 1.3MJD FGT and the going to be launched 1.3VGT.. When I bought Punto, I desperately hoped to get a VGT. I wouldn't be fiddling with my gears much, had I got the VGT.

Sid, is the 1.6 MJD considered only for the Linea or will the Punter get it too? Can you reveal anything about the 1.4 T-jet for the Punto, if that's being considered too by FIAT

I think this time Fiat will not disappoint the early birds price-wise. I mean to say, Honda and Hyundai having raised the bar in hatchback pricing, Fiat will exercise the resulting licence to launch the newer models at stratospheric prices.

This is great news! Fiat, bring on the 1.4 T-Jet please.

Will the Indica/Indigo Vista get access to the 1.6 MJD as well?

Am sure the early birds would not loose out price wise and the newer versions may come in at a significant premium.

The 1.6 MJD could make it a true power compare with the City and the price may be similar with additional features on the Linea + the diesel advantage, would take on the Octavia, Optra magnum, verna also very well then for both power and pricing.

I feel both 1.6 MJD Linea and Punto VGT would come in January 2010. That would help Fiat launch these cars as MY 2010 models. Jan would also be Linea's anniversary. But, I feel Fiat can get a bit bold and launch the VGT Punto next month to cash in on the festive season.

I think with the expansion of the Punto range with VGT, it will give a serious fight to the i20. Get the 1.4 T-Jet in and it will simply race ahead of all premium hatchbacks.

Good to know Fiat is working hard behind the scenes. And all this while we thought they were lethargic and sleeping away.

The new Punto pictures posted by sidindica are looking good. I initially hated the looks due to the loss of the Maserati front end but looking at it in full metal glory, it looks bloody good. Like I had said earlier, lets not go by teaser pictures and wait for the real thing. Never underestimate the Italian's when it comes to styling .

Yep even the current punto & linea seems to look good in almost all colours. It hard to choose which is the best colour for the car. The latest series of advts. too make them drool worthy.

Fiat Launching Linea 1.6 Soon!

What would be expected price tag for Fiat Linea 1.6 version?
Hope it doesn't sell at rocketing prices and reach into Optra Magnum segment.

The dilemma is crushing me! I have booked a 1.3 MJD and still probably have the option to cancel it and wait for 1.6 MJD to be launched.

What do I do guys?
