I am planning to buy a second hand Scorpio and want to go for the modified chain driven one. I want to know how to identify whether its the chain driven one or the older gear driven... I also want to know when was the chain driven Scorpio introduced...

Thanks...

i think the chain driven one is the one whose front number plate is lowered than the original model to enhance airflow to the radiator. The number plate is below the level of the fog lamps. But not too sure about it.

Yes drifter. Thats the only indication for guess it and the chain drive Scorpio is pretty silent in the diesel shatter than the belt drive one.

I think drifter is 100% right. They were introduced in July last year if i am not mistaken.

I know that is one of the differences but don’t want to rely on that as that can be easily modified…

I guess they had also started using a different engine cover for the chain driven ones....you could go to a showroom and check the engine cover and compare it to a scorpio which is atleast 2 years old.

Drifter

dude i think the new ones came after the 1st anniversary of the scorpio , so i guess any model after july 2003 should be fine ! but juts check on the same !

manson .

Another difference...the number of slats on the grille were reduced for the chain driven engine...dont know the number of slats though.

Hi guys,

I also intend to go in for 2nd hand scorpio but the only thought holding me back is its maintenane cost and the problems that might crop up say after 3/4 years. I am sure some of you guys might be driving from the day one and would like to share your experience.

thanks

I personally dont own a scorpio...but i do know...its one rugged vehicle...but like any vehicle you need to stick to the service intervals so that it doesnot give you any problems. Manson owns a scorpio...he can better help you out with these issues.

Guys the chain driven scorpio was introduced in June'03 , cause I have a friend who bought one then.

I too have a scorpio approx a year old , no problems so far with the exception of the wheel alignement (it used to pull to the left after I had the tyres changed to Pirelli tubless tyres , I later changed them to Michelin no problems since then) have ensured it is serviced on time and have been getting apprx 9-10 Kmpl with AC in Pune Traffic
excellent AC ! , Great service from Bora Auto No complaints so far
