Re: A compilation of Skoda / VW horror stories

These are cars that I know of among friends on the forum:

Manson's Laura DSG

Gogi's Superb and Laura DSG packup one after the other.

V-16's Laura gearbox retires.

Sam's Superb TSI

Swanand's Superb

Another interesting thread.

Even in the used car market, an AT from Skoda does not move off the dealer. The resale value of DSG equipped cars is poor.

There are a few threads on Rapid, if you would note this post and a few earlier. As for Vento, not that many. IMO the cars (both of them - they do come from the same factory/production line) are excellent vehicles, it's the dealers who are faulty. VW still has a few good dealers across some (if not most) of the cities. Unfortunately that's not the case for Skoda.

Disclaimer: I own a Vento. Quite happily & satisfied, if I may.

Any new buyer of VW/Skoda will need a brave heart when going through these threads, really unfortunate that so many people have suffered due to no pro-customer regulations in this country, definitely a great compilation.

Re: A compilation of Skoda / VW horror stories

Oh my good god, even if I am looking for the horror stories I sure don't have the patience to go through all the horror links posted so far.

1) As on date, there are 92 horror stories shared on this thread alone.
Source: I counted them really

2) As on date, there are 115,518 threads on team BHP.com just FYI.
source: teamp-bhp.com home page

You can relate 1 and 2 at your own peril.

Re: Team-BHP stands for the TRUTH. But Skoda wants to “instigate” Team-BHP and its us

Of all the brands VAG holds, Skoda is the lowest and the cheapest rated brand and yet it had taken Indians for a premium ride! (No pun intended).

I feel sorry that the service at the dealer level is in such poor state all over India and I'm glad my brother did not end up buying the new Octavia.

+1. Skoda is the cheapest brand abroad and acts premium-like in India. And we, in India feel pride in owning a Skoda. Skoda was among the most unreliable cars until VW acquired the brand under itself. However, things changed lately, but still a lot is desired.
It will be a very blunt question, but do Indians, in a zest to own a European car buy a Skoda; just for the sake of it? A lot lesser number of horror stories about VW we hear...isn't it?

Come on! Agreed there are unhappy Skoda customers and Skoda bashing is in fashion these days, but saying that Indians buy a Skoda just for the sake of buying a 'European car' is offensive to Skoda owners to say the least. There are a lot of very happy Skoda customers as well including yours truly, who feel that Skoda cars are great value for money if you look at the overall package. The good ride, handling, quality interiors, overall fit and finish, powerful + efficient power plants, and good safety features is what makes a customer go for a Skoda despite their poor service reputation in India. A calculated risk if you can call it that.

Just FYI, Skoda regularly tops reliability and satisfaction surveys in Europe. You hear less VW 'horror stories' in India because there are more Skodas on the road than VWs right now. Most VWs sold in India are Polos and Ventos and mostly manual transmission. VW DSG failures are quite common elsewhere in the world.

Not really. Apart from the points made by Santosh above,If you compare Skoda cars with VW in almost all segments the Skoda cars offer a better package overall. Superb is far better than the Passat. Erstwhile Laura was a better package overall than Jetta. New Octavia is a generation ahead.

Rapid is 95% Vento at a much lesser price.

This is what makes customers go with Skoda, unfortunately some end up with regrettable and forgetful experiences.
