Maruti stops its current diesel car production

As per Reports, Maruti has stopped production of Esteem and Zen Disel vehicles till it starts its own engine production. Can be found

Its a good news, then its the Multijet diesel engines are which will be used in the future diesel Marutis. BTW when will they start manufacturing multijet diesel engines.

If i am not Mistaken, FIAT will have a tie up with Maruti.
This way, Maruti makes it cheap and both FIAT and Maruti get to use it.
Just waiting for the day.

Are you sure the deal is still on? Because there was some speculation on the Tata-Fiat thing. In which case, Fiat engines may not be supplied to Maruti. Just my guess. Tata might want to keep the technology for itself.

ford has also stopped selling diesel ikons from 1april 2005 after the bharat stage 3 pollution norms were compulsory.

thats the sole reason for the discontinued diesel marutis. since they used the tud5 peugeot engines which couldn't comply with the BS III norms.

Yes type one the deal is on. Plus engine have started to be manufactured i guess and by end 2006 they will be in the maruti cars.

Thats only in metros, they still sell in small cities and rural areas, not that many people want diesel Ikons though!!
