Oops..It wasn't a miscalculation, but a typo. I was thinking 4x2 but typed 4x4. 55.9 is rounded to 56. Another update, Scorpio new torque:wt ratio is 148 Nm/ton.

You mean the DICOR engine weighs 150kgs MORE than the old one. No way buddy...thats too much. For reference the Merc 270CDI 5 cyl engine itself weighs around 200kg. I would throw in about 60kg additional into the Sierra. Its still a scorcher by a huge margin. Also Scorpio's numbers look impressive. Funny how the Ford, Mahindra and TATA have the same hp numbers.

I would go for a DICOR Sierra 4x4 anyday.. But it has to be a 5-door version and not the 3-door version.. Also as veyron mentioned the kerb weight should be limited in the 1500 - 1700 range.. Also the gross weight should also be less in order to pack more punch..

There's a guy here who does a 4 door conversion for the Sierra - he puts in a gull wing door for the rear passengers on the left side. Very neat job and no complaints about the door at all. Needless to say, you can make a very dramatic entry if you're the passenger...

yup....this time, the typo error is mine....

and yes, the new engine is a LOT heavier than the old one... except for revised mountings, an ugly-looking plastic "engine cover" and higher noise and vibration dampening material (hitlon, rubber, thicker partitions on the firewall), there's nothing more in terms of body design that adds to the weight....which means that - yes, the new dicor engine weighs over 150 kgs more....and considering that the old engine weighed around 220 kgs, that's a LOT heavier... the total weight of the engine stands at around 370 kgs now.... do not forget that the engine is cast iron, and the displacement is 3000cc....and also, the engine is from the 407....

and just for reference, i think the scorpio's engine weighs in at around 350 kgs.....

once again, the sierra DICOR 4x4 could be a helluva car...provided it's suspension is designed similar to the safari and has the same tolerances... and for once, we could have a true blue sexy SUV under the 8 lac range, that you could drive in to the taj, after a muddy encounter....heck..i'm getting ideas now...

i was told recently by one of my acquaintances that you can still order for a Sierra. It is now offered on made to order (rather made on order) basis.

anyone know better ?

even i have been hearing rumours about this since a long time, but the tata dealers are refusing any knowledge. all i know is that the sierra turbo 4x4 was on a made to order basis (uptil 2001), although the sierra sales stopped in sometime early 2002. tata was still exporting the sierra then, but it was not for sale in the domestic markets....

if anybody could confirm from tata themselves whether the sierra turbo 4x4 is still available (even if on a made to order basis), it would really be appreciated.... in fact, i would really love to have one....

Congratulations Steeroid!

I will be taking a test drive of the DICOR Safari tomorrow if time permits. I'm giving serious thought about buying it next year so I'm hoping I'll be able to afford it then.

You had metioned earlier that you have gone in for some accessories upgrade ... can you give an idea as to how much the side claddings and other things etc costed you ...that would help me decide which variant to go for ....
