Guys,
I am buying a used car and I am struggling to find the details on RTO procedures to be followed. So far I am able to find that I need to fill up two forms, form-29 and form-30.

Form-29 http://www.tn.gov.in/sta/forms/form29.pdf
Form-30 http://www.tn.gov.in/sta/forms/form30.pdf

The owner has paid off the loan, but the R.C book still holds the hypothecation entry and the owner has promised to remove the entry before handing over the car to me. Do I need to request for any further documents from the owner like NOC from the bank, etc?

The car is registered under TN07 RTO (Thiruvanmiyur) and my home address comes under TN02 RTO( Thirumangalam). Do I have to do anything additional to this reason?

What will be the step by step procedure in the RTO?I am a complete novice and this is my first car. Please help me guys.

Mods, I was not able to find an appropriate thread, hence posting in a new thread. If a thread already exists, please merge this thread along with it.

Cruiser,

The best option is to approach known auto consultant and do the tranfer.

you can ask the seller to get the Hypo remove from RC and also keep a copy of NOC from Bank.

Thanks Muke31.

I am sure this forum has many members from Chennai and they should have some experience in buying used cars. Can you please guide me? Atleast give me a agent/consultant details with whom you have worked on this regard before. It should be helpful for me.

Thanks man. I will take it from here.

Just found some details(on the documents required and fees) for Hypothecation cancellation and Transfer of ownership in Tamilnadu. I am posting the same here. Should definitely be helpful for others.

NOC is required only for the cancellation of hypothecation.

If you want to make things hassel free. Take an AASI (Automobile Association of South India) membership and they will guide you through the things. They are very geniune.

Hi All,

I'm planning to sell my car which is registered in Chennai to someone who lives in Bangalore. However the process of getting an NOC seems rather complicated, someone actually tried getting it done but was made to run to the commissioners office, etc ..

Is there an agent or someone who can assist based out of Bangalore that anyone knows?

Thanks!
