This could be the case I guess. Now, the Getz CRDi is available at a cheaper price. They could just keep the performance version (Getz CRDi) for entry level and an FE version (i20 D) for top end

That's what I have heard as well, I think we should hear something by July. I am watching it with interest, otherwise it would be most probably GP for me.

they have one more here if announced before first week of july. i am planning to buy top end diesel linea by first week of july and i will cancel the plan of buying linea for a i20 diesel if it comes in asta o varient just for its safety ratings of 5 stars from ncap.

I was told by a dealer person that staff have been sent for training, that both the 1.4 diesel and 1.4 petrol are being launched in a few months, and specifications should be released in a few weeks.

If Hyundai offers us the i20 1.4 diesel Asta-O with the exact same or better features as the 1.2 petrol Asta-O version, it will probably be the first fully loaded (with the exception of stability control, active front headrests and the rear centre headrest) and, arguably, the safest diesel hatch below 10 lakhs. The only possible downside is this review from Autocar UK:

The range-topping 1.4-litre diesel is capable of more than 50mpg under hard use, but it’s a coarse-sounding motor and it doesn’t really suit what is potentially a smart, nippy little car.

Does anyone know if there are any diesel cars in India that feature a diesel particulate filter (DPF) along with a catalytic converter?

I dont think that there are any cars in india that come with DPF.
but even if there ought to be any, it has to be from volkswagon, BMW, Merc, Audi or Volvo.
the indian or the budget car manufacturers in india are not so enviornment friendly as of now.

I'm not very keen on i20, as they will definitely burn our pockets when pricing is concern.
The same hype was created when they launched Getz-CDRi.Let’s hope Hyundai had learnt a lesson and price it according to Indian market.
Else GP will rule the P.hatch market followed by swift.

I ownder Fiat Linea had ruled over Verna.Pls comment on this.

Any news on the pricing?
My guess as per Hyundai pricing and 1Lakh difference between petrol and diesel:
i20 CRDi Magna: 6.7Lakhs OTR Bangalore
i20 CRDi Asta: 7.7 Lakhs OTR Bangalore

Again, Punto would be VFM.

I drive a Accent Viva CRDi and the three cylinder motor is pretty coarse, but then its served me well. Even after 66000 kms gruelling it has the oomph to take the car to 165+ (as per speedo)

Since the new engine is 4 cylinder, I think it ll definitely be better than my current ride's.

The Getz CRDI is 1.65 lacs more expensive than the Getz 1.3

Getz 1.3 GVS OTR in Bangalore : 4,82,377
Getz 1.5 GVS OTR in Bangalore : 6,45,291

This was before Hyundai started giving discounts on the Getz CRDI. Don't expect discounts on the i20 for teh first couple of years.

So with a difference of 1.6 lacs, i20 OTR prices would be something like this:

i20 CRDi Magna: 7.3 Lakhs OTR Bangalore
i20 CRDi Asta: 8.3 Lakhs OTR Bangalore

True, but consider this

Verna 1.6 VTVT 638181
Verna 1.6 SX VTVT 712980
Verna 1.5 CRDi VGT 752681
Verna 1.5 SX CRDi VGT 802581

(Prices from Hyundai website Ex Showroom Kolkata)

Diff in Base model (Diesel - Petrol) = 1.14 lacs
Diff in SX model (Diesel - Petrol) = 0.87 lacs

Why is there a difference of approx 27000 in the premium which Hyundai is charging for the CRDi engine between different models of the same car?? As far as I can see, all features of SX petrol & SX crdi are same! Someone correct me if I'm wrong.

So basically Hyundai pricing defies logic!! They only know what they will price the i20 at.

What if the motor is manufactured locally?

Just a thought!
Heard from other thread that Hyundai has invested in a Diesel Manufacturing plant in Chennai. And we all know that the CRDi on the Verna and Getz is imported (with a VGT!). But what if Hyundai plonks in the motor that is manufactured here? Would it not be able to reduce the gap between Petrol and Diesel considering the savings in the import duty that it pays for the motor (and the spares)?
I always thought Getz Diesel was introduced just so that Hyundai has an entry in Diesel hatch segment but was priced prohibitively since they have to import the motor.

Pricing of most of the companies defy logic e.g Safari EX 4x4 & GX 4x4 the price difference is 1 lakh for just additional ABS & Leather seats.

i20 Crdi will be around 7.0L.

The i20 is expected in few days and they are going to launch a 1.4 diesel priced around 5.5-6.5 lacs and also a 1.4 petrol automatic around 6.5 lacs.
