The cat is out of the bag ! Ultimately, with some perseverance, I could dig out some media matter about the Quantum car. The reviews list the features and the engine an 1800 cc/ 4cyl/ 125 bhp @4500 rpm with MPFI , way back in 1996 was truly a bit Utopian for our market. However, we are not aware about its market reach and acceptance by buyers, as many of us including me have never seen one !

Thank you and hats off to your perseverance Sir. The car was definitely ahead of its time - a 820 kg 2 door convertible with 125 bhp on tap sounds a good proposition even today

The Quantum was definitely a car which was well ahead of its times (just like the Rover Montego). A 1800 cc convertible sportscar priced at 9.5 lakhs today would be selling like hot cakes. However the only things that went against the Quantum was that there was no clear picture on who is selling the car / who will service it once it was sold. Although I believe it had a Ford engine and there was an agreement between OCAL and Ford India that the car could be serviced at Ford service centers. The Quantum was never displayed in any showrooms too - so many people were unaware of it.

I had seen the Quantum twice or thrice when it was parked at a 2nd hand car dealership in Santacruz (Top Cool Cars). They were appointed as agents for taking bookings of the Quantum - Rs 9500/- for booking one car. The sales were so bad - that they even had an offer that if you book 9 Quantums - the booking would be free for the 10th car.

Some more memories from the 1990's.The Ford Taurus seen here is from a Ford advertisement that would commonly appear prior to the launch of the Escort, when they entered India through the JV with Mahindra. The letters MOS in my handwriting stand for Metropolis on Saturday, Mumbai, a weekly from the Times of India group. Incidentally MOS too stopped publication soon after.

Hi Friends, a few from my side Including some "phoren" magazines also. Will be uploading some more . Interesting to see so many old stalwarts- brings back so many lovely memories.

The armada was a favourite. Would look on with envy whenever i used to see them. My favourite colour was the white. The Indian Auto Journal road tested them and declared " Mahindra has come of age" - guess that was very true.

The red machismo was something i always wanted to own back then, but couldn't afford one when i was ready to buy the bullet and so bought the Deluxe back then.

Well, the Vespa 150 NV - my father had one when we were kids - he eventually sold it and bought a T5 supremo with all the bells and whistles - it even had a clock.
