Some more stuff from the 1990's:

Ads from the '90s - The decade that changed the Indian automotive industry-picture-487.jpg
The Daewoo Cielo in a not so colourful advertisement-the car used to glow in colourful ads

Ads from the '90s - The decade that changed the Indian automotive industry-picture-488.jpg
The Armada, one of the firsts to mark M&M's very successful foray into the world of SUV's

Ads from the '90s - The decade that changed the Indian automotive industry-picture-497.jpg
The Kinetic Pride, one of the many failed attempts by the 2 wheeler maker to get into the lighter scooter market.

Ads from the '90s - The decade that changed the Indian automotive industry-picture-498.jpg
A failed attempt by Bajaj Auto to reach into the step-through market, or even create a market for step-throughs in India. The 74 cc 2 stroke engine and frame came straight from the m80. So the R&D cost was kept low put poor quality body panels, poor fit and finish and lack of buyers made this one tumble.

The Bajaj Sunny was a runaway success in its hey days. It competed with the TVS Scooty. The Bajaj Spirit made the Sunny fade into oblivion

Featuring two cars that made a great impact in the 1990's but were not hot sellers. The Montego priced at Rs 10 L bore the "SIPANI" tag and was ahead of its times perhaps. The Peugeot model and even Peugeot had to make an exit, rather the second one after the failed moped (Sportif) venture in 1984.

Anjan Sir, I also have the same doubt - about the Quantum. Though the name rings a vague bell, any info about this will be really appreciated.

True theexperthand and Dicky, now while I read through the advertisement, I could recollect that this company at Chandigarh was established by a NRI.The cars were to be merely assembled at his plant and the engine was to be imported from a French car maker, most probably Renault if my memory serves me correctly,(though it does not many a time???).
I am also not sure of the claim about this Quantum engine that fires to 100 kmph within 6 seconds.
This car was also featured in Auto India, if I am not mistaken. I will try and check out some old issue of this magazine from the corresponding date to find out.
Thanks for pointing it out.

Thank you Sir. Now, this definitely rings a bell - I am sure that is where I have read it - in one of the old Auto India (Or was it in Indian Auto? ) magazines. Unfortunately, I do not have access to my old collection now, so if you could upload \ describe what you could find from the magazine, it will be great.

Anoop, I have all the issues of Auto India and Indian Auto of those years, but will have to devote some time and get the right one. We will get back to the topic once the issue is at hand.

Meanwhile, here is an advertisement of the then popular Hero Panther moped. This was perhaps the successor to Hero Majestic, their earliest foray into motorised two wheelers. And Hero Puch succeeded the Panther, though the two sold alongside for some time at the Hero Majestic showrooms.
But wonder what has happened to Hero Majestic Ltd ? None of these mopeds are seen nowadays.

re: Ads from the '90s - The decade that changed the Indian automotive industry

The technical specifications and price list of all two and four wheeler models available for sale in India as on June 1990, from Indian Auto:

Ads from the '90s - The decade that changed the Indian automotive industry-picture-548.jpg

Ads from the '90s - The decade that changed the Indian automotive industry-picture-549.jpg

An advertisement of the Tata 407 from October 1990 here. The LCV is sitting pretty after its fresh victory in its street battle with the Japanese LCV's, that had entered the and were taking the market by storm. Come the Tata 407, the potential buyers saw much more USP in the homegrown, son of the soil brand. Soon the LCV's from Toyota, Nissan, Mazda and Mitsubishi progressively showed alarmingly low sales figures. Nissan was bought by Mahindra (they are the best in buying ailing but established companies) and the Eicher Mitsubishi partnership continued but they parted ways later. DCM Toyota was shut down, while Swaraj Mazda survived for some more time.
A well deserved victory for the Tata 407

I still remember their ad jingle which would play in the back ground while showing the bike being ridden across state highways, village roads and crossing nullahs to reach its destination, a village in the middle of no where.

"Bade pahiyon ki hai badi baat,
In raston pe, barson ka saath,

Bade bade pahiye hain iske,
Badi hai inki baat,

Kaise bhi mushkil ho raaste,
Nahi koi aisi baat"

And then a man says,

"Dekha iske bade pahiyon ka kamaal,
Yahan tak bhi le aaye..!!"

re: Ads from the '90s - The decade that changed the Indian automotive industry

The article from Indian Auto (1992) shows that Mahindra was really getting serious with the idea of selling hardtop UV's, aimed at creating a premium UV niche for itself, rather than solely depend on government orders, the rural sector and the taxi trade.

(not exactly an advertisement, but it gives an insight into the thinking of the UV maker and ROPLAS during the early 1990's)

re: Ads from the '90s - The decade that changed the Indian automotive industry

Again these are not advertisements but some information about the once much hyped Sipani D 1, from Indian Auto of August 1992, that ultimately proved to be a non-starter. The Montana was being sold alongside and could be seen on the roads in many cities at least. But many have never even seen the D 1 which bombed.

The above reactions from owners appear to be quite encouraging as the cars were quite new then. The magic soon faded.
