Tata Safari (15.1.1998) and Daewoo Nexia (11.07.1999) advertisements from the last decade of the previous millennium- both had something in common.

Both had great expectations from the car lovers - the Tata Safari as India's low budget Range Rover and the Nexia as the NexGen Cielo.
The Safari still lugs on but the Nexia was still born in India. The South Korean chaebol soon collapsed.

A wonderful thread!! Brings back the memories of childhood when a ride on dad's Bajaj Chetak was everything for me.

Something for Rajdoot:-

Ad for the '69 Ambassador Mark-II.

14 hp. Is this a typo in the advertisement? Specs seem to indicate 46hp.

0-100 kmph in over 36 secs...must have been ok for 1969 I guess.

re: Ads from the '90s - The decade that changed the Indian automotive industry

The last ad that you have posted of the KB motorcycle is confusing. The 1st point in the ad says that it is 125 C.C. and the bike is named KB 100 RTZ !

Which is it, 125 or 100 C.C.?

Thats a goofup I believe, by the advertiser perhaps. The bike featured is a 100 cc. They came up with the 125 cc version during the end of the life cycle of this particular model.

I think he was nobody to endorse anything those days (late 80's / very early 90's). He is merely a model in this ad!

@John Doe & Anjan- the ad is correct, it talks about a 125cc CRADLE FRAME and not a 125 cc ENGINE. The KB100 had the double cradle frame of the 125 sibling and also some other parts making it nearly 12-15 kgs heavier to the RX 100. The ad brings back fond memories when i purchased my RTZ Delta in 1990. At that time it was probably the cheapest 100cc compared to the TVS Suzuki, CD100 and RX100. Got it for all of Rs. 21785/-. Used it till 2003 while I was posted at Diesel Locomotive Works, Varanasi. But then once i shifted to Delhi its been lying in the garage at Varanasi. Not mint condition but its stock and the only changes are replaced indicators, SRVM, head lite bulb, etc. which are after market fitments since the original quality of them was no longer available even in the early 2000's. Out of these the most i miss are the shear quality of original SRVM's which were class leading and the Stanley conventional headlite bulb...worth its weight in gold that little piece of stuff. Regret not having purchased a box of them while they were available. Cost Rs. 120 or 140/- in the mid nineties. Posting snaps of my ride in the modified bikes section since I covered up my bike in FRP panels which were hand made.
