Hyundai Motor India Ltd., the country’s largest passenger car exporter and the second largest car manufacturer, as part of its initiative to promote eco-friendly and non-polluting means of transport, launched its LPG variant of the very popular Accent. The LPG, bi-fuel variant will be priced at Rs 533,900 which is Rs 34,900 more than the existing petrol model and it is fitted with an engine immobilizer as a standard fitment for added security.

The new LPG version of Accent, named as Accent eco (eco is synonymous with environmentally friendly and economy) comes with a factory fitted LPG kit approved and certified by the Department of Explosives (DOE) and Automotive research Authority of India (ARAI), the country’s premier automobile testing and certifying authority.

Powered by the 1.5 litre engine which is mated to a 5 speed, manual Transmission, the Accent eco offers its customers a unique combination of safe and reliable performance with an unmatched fuel economy. With separate Petrol (45 Litre) and LPG (27.2 litre) fuel tanks, the customers has an option to choose from both LPG and petrol driving mode. The LPG tank in the Accent eco has a special ‘ Toroidal’ design that allows intelligent use of space and makes for a larger luggage room available to the customer.

Announcing the launch, HMIL, Managing Director, H S Lheem, said, “The Accent has always been a very strong product in its segment. Earlier we had introduced it with a CNG kit and our customers found it to be a really attractive proposition, as it has all one can look for in this class of cars. The LPG version will only add to the appeal of Accent, as it will not only be cheaper to run and maintain but also eco friendly. At our end, we have ensured that Accent LPG meets all the safety standards as our customers need to be assured of the safety and reliability of our products that we offer to them.”

The factory-fitted LPG kit in the Accent eco enjoys a full 2 year manufacturer warranty benefits thus ensuring enhanced peace of mind for the customers. Accent eco also boasts of the lowest greenhouse gas emission as it emits lower CO2, as compared to the petrol version of the car, hence making it extremely environmentally friendly.

Other highlights of the Accent eco includes reduced engine maintenance, longer life of spark plug and engine, less frequent change of engine oil, safe and reliable. In addition to that, the car offers ample luggage space, smart and ergonomic design and efficient performance. Hyundai in keeping to its high safety standards ensures that the car goes through LPG leakage detection test thrice before it is delivered to customers and has a special filler cap inside the LPG lining to prevent wear and tear of the parts. HMIL offers the Santro in CNG and LPG variants and now the Accent LPG adds to its range of offerings in the alternative fuel cars. The Accent CNG was launched in June, 2008...

If anyone needed proof that Hyundai's gotten slow after BVR Subbu's departure, this is it. They took all of 17 months to launch a simple LPG variant of a car that'd been around for years (Link to Jan 2008 thread).

LPG is slowly losing favour, in the market, to the substantially cheaper CNG. In fact, Hyundai recently launched a CNG variant of the Accent as well (Thread Link). Does anyone else think that Hyundai is flogging a dead horse here? The Verna + Accent duo haven't been doing particularly well in the market of late.

During my recent pre-purchase study, i talked to couple of Verna and Accent owners. Even though the Old Accent owners are proud of the cars, new Verna owners did not sound very happy.

My personal view is Hyundai should have promoted Accent Viva much stronger, i have heard from several ladies (& gents ofcourse) that Viva is very stunning.:D

Definitely! About time Hyundai focused on replacing the present version with a newer,fresher design and better engine. The Accent badge has a very good VFM sedan reputation in the mid segment and would be sad to see Hyundai not taking advantage of it. Guess Hyundai has focused too much on the compact segment

Reminds me of the decline of the Esteem badge, because of Maruti's focus on the compact segment.

So are they planninig to use this one as a test mule?I dont feel like they are going to continue with the accent for long.The car is a good one and for that price VFM.But it has been arround for long now.A new accent evokes less excitment nowadays.

On the other hand I think they are in not mood to discontinue the Accent model altogether. Thats good news for people who recently purchased the car. This news should encourage prospective buyers who just have the resources to grab a VFM entry level Sedan.

I believe they should have let one of the CNG kit manufacturers design a sequential kit for them instead of introducing a LPG variant.

Hyundai did charged huge premium on thes so called eco friendly cars.

additional 55,000 for CNG kit & 34,000 for LPG kit.

IMO CNG will definitely turnout a good option, as accecnt's engine has good power.

The biggest problem with LPG is the Lack of availability & a higher price tag in comparison to CNG.

My brother has an Accent, the 1.5 GLS December 2000 (9th year in the running). I've driven the car many times and even with CNG
it pulls pretty strongly (the wheels spin quite easily), the difference comes in only around 120 kmph, beyond which you can simply shift to
petrol (Shift on the fly) :D, A/C effectiveness is the same as the petrol one. Running costs are around Rs. 1.0 - 1.25 per km (With A/C), the
service schedules followed are the same as the petrol variant. The best part about it is that a full tank of CNG costs anywhere between
Rs. 125 - 200 (dependent upon the pressure of the gas at the filling station) & you can run roughly the same number of kilometers with it.


The car was retrofitted with the CNG kit at 60,000 kms, Has run roughly around 1,25,000 kms. The kit cost him Rs 42,000/- with RC Conversion.
With a 1 year warranty from an independent CNG specialist.

The kit offered by Hyundai is for Rs. 65,000/- as per Hyundai Motor Plaza. The kit is installed at the dealers end & is not from the factory.

On website the Kit costs around 55,000.

Which IMO is very costly.

It is worth to install kit from after market, after 1 year (once warranty is over) in around 40K, than to give 55-60 K to the dealer. (Kit is not factory fitted)

While LPG version is coming with a factory fitted kit.

hey guys, i have been a fan of accent CRDI. however as the production is stopped, i could own a new one. the accent executive is good but wanted more economy [ milage]. finally good news is hear, accent lpg. as i have never driven lpg vehicles, could some one throw some light on it ?? Is it a good choice to buy it now for almost 6 lacs..?? i also have an thought of considering swift or ritz. however i like the interior and built quality of accent. i also want to know which gives more milage and easy to mentain. please help me with ur suggetions

The range does start at Rs. 55,000/- but it depends on the LAMBDA you choose. Since the ECU of the petrol engine is tuned to run exclusively on Petrol (87-91 Octane) and for it to run successfully on a CNG (120+ Octane) powered engine, some changes to the readings being sent to the ECU become mandatory. A Chinese made Lambda costs around Rs. 2-3K but a genuine Italian one costs upwards of Rs. 8K dependent upon the car. Thats the reason for the price difference.

The quality of the LAMBDA will influence everything from the power, pick-up, A/C effectiveness to even the running costs, service costs, etc.
Many people end up buying the Chinese Lambda and complain about the lack of power, A/C effectiveness, etc.


:OT I've seen Honda Accord's, Toyota Camary's & evan the Germans (Merc's & Skoda's) Running on CNG.

Does the Accent Executive make more sense or Accent Executive Eco (FF LPG) ? The petrol FE is 9. Any pointers to the LPG FE? Will it be same?
