Toyota won't get away with this for too long. Indian customers are much more informed today and can clearly see through this ploy. Eventually I hope they will be forced to go the way they did in the US market with the Corolla S. But then Honda also pulled a similar trick with the Civic sport in India. I hope the companies begin to realise the fact that a person buying the car just for transport will not buy a more expensive sport edition. And the true enthusiast will not be satisfied with just some fancy bodywork. The market for the truly 'affordable' sports car has arrived in India and I hope the companies oblige.
But then again, how many of us would buy a 17 lakh Honda Civic?

when others release SLOWER cars with sticker jobs as sports models (indica Sports LPG anyone ) , to the average indian, a car with a bodykit and a spoiler = + 50 m(ental)hp

How long will manufacturers continue to treat Indian car buyers with contempt by introducing fake Sports MODELS. Case in point Civic Sports with white alloys, side skirts and rear spoiler.

The problem seems to be with nomenclature.. They should have learned from Hondas mistake and named differently. But unlike civic sport this one will sell very fast due to latest new colors. Lets suggest Toyota to name it differently. They should name this edition as Corolla Altis-Tweak or Altis-Stunt or Altis-Speed to give a sporty feel without spoiling the actual "Sport' Badge. Then we won't have any problem.

As for the car, fittings look extra market & not OEM though need to see them in person to comment better.
I thought Toyota could have learnt from Honda's sports craze. :-)

Cmon toyota, do you really think indian customers will get attracted by this farce of what you call the "sport" version. Adding side skirts and spoiler doesnt really qualify truly for a sport edition and would you try the same gimmick at the US or the european market. Wot do you take the indian customer to be, that you can throw any crap and we will lap it up. Who needs the superficial spoilers and sideskirt, throw in more BHP and you will see a lot of sales and the respect for the brand growing leaps and bounds. Its high time indian customers stopped being taken for a ride literally. Get your act together and add something substantial to the performance of the car rather than involve in cheap stickering and body mods.

spotted one of these yesterday . The front fender looks nice , but the side skirts and the spoiler are absolutely pathetic. Even a local body mod job would look much better.

^^ Actually Toyota does something similar in the US market with the Corolla S. So not something specifically for India.

The corolla Altis is not meant to be a sporty vehicle. I took a look at it last week and found it to be more like a normal sedan patched up with stuff here and there. Another thing, the Corolla and Civic in the North American market are comparable for performance, features and comfort but in India, Corolla is an executive and family car where as Civic is more a driver's car. Civic Sports makes sense
