GM to launch LPG version of Spark @ Rs. 3.52 Lacs

GM launches LPG version of Spark, to cost Rs 3.52 lakh- Automobiles-Auto-News By Industry-News-The Economic Times

"Putting a brave face amid its parent going bankrupt in the US, General Motors India on Friday launched the LPG version of its small car Spark in the country, priced at Rs 3.52 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi).

"We plan to continue to introduce the variance of the Spark that targets different groups of customers. This will enable us to achieve our goal of becoming a market leader in India by giving our customers the vehicles that they want, when they want them," General Motors India President and Managing Director Karl Slym told reporters here."

Now, that's a good news. There was news about UVA also coming in LPG. Seems not this time. Hope its on the pipeline and no changes to those plans.

+1 to that thought. I am also hoping that the company gets out the CNG/LPG version of it's Aveo sedan. Would love to see some more aveo's around.

Assuming that they would put LPG in 1 Ltr engine, would it be comparable to 800 CC petrol engine in terms of power ?

Hope this Spark variant does well. Wold hate to see a good product like the Spark lose out because of GM's troubles in the US.

I guess that would also depend on how they tune it. Maruti has tuned the WagonR quite aggressively so you hardly notice the difference in a city ride.

Yeah I hope they hurry up new launches. Maruti is exhausted now and have launched all the cars they had inside already. It face-lift time at Maruti. GM should take note of this and hurry up the new UVA with diesel and the Beat, get a hold on the market before the SwiftII (as if one of them was not enough) which is already undergoing testing around the world reaches our country.

With the highly successful WagonR and Santro LPG versions already in the market, and given the GM US bankruptcy scenario, the Spark LPG will have a very tough challenge at hands.

This is what they have on the website

" The new 4 Cylinder, 8V SOHC MPFI LPG engine of 1.0L comes with a power of 63 PS in Petrol Mode and 60 PS in LPG mode and has an unbelievable torque of 90.3 NM for Petrol and 88.4 NM for LPG. The new engine results in negligible power loss and great peppy drive."

Its a good move, but in Ahmedabad, Delhi etc, CNG will be a better option.

Does any have any idea, which variant does the LPG variant corresponds to?

Also will the same discounts be valid to LPG variant as well. Around 45,000/- cash discount(plus 10,000/- towards exchange bonus) is on for the non-LPG variants.

I'm not sure as to how successful would GM be in achieving the numbers for Spark LPG considering the poor after sales service that they have ( personal experience).

The spark is an excellent machine but with very low mileage ( mine gives me 13-14 kmpl in city and max 15.5 on highways with AC on- 2008 LS Model )

Also echoing KKR2K2 question on which variant are they offering for 3.52 lakhs ( my intution says its going to be the entry model which would cost 3.52 ex showroom)
