+1. I love those Vista's on road. Simple and nice looking. Looks very spacious too

Great stuff, can imagine what the combined passenger car market would have grown like.
The harbinger of the end of recession ??

2300 City down from 6k level in March
jazz - 1k
GP - 1.5k
i20 - 2.5k
Swift - 6.6k
Ritz - 6.2k

Note - MSIL claims to have a maintenance shutdown during the last week - their claim is that Swift and Ritz demand was more - and the sales would have been higher if shutdown wasn't there..

interesting to see the A2 + segment seeing some action - lets c who comes out tops by aug when every when is settled ...

Wow, thats some info. where did you get these figures from? If true, then GP is in for trouble soon, just 1.5K against 2.5 K of i20 (only petrol underpowered engine) and 1k of Jazz. Swift is still managing to be the leader. This speak volumes of the competence of this hatch

sorry my bad
pls read jazz as 2k

btw - these are june 2009 sales
an no GP isnt in trouble coz generally the sales in the 1st month go towards building Dealer Stock and Demo vehicles.

it takes 2-3 months for actual sustainable nos. to surface - wait and watch

2K for Jazz - for a car which is atleast 1 lac over any other car in it's segment (diesel included). That says a lot about the (straight) 'H' factor. GP at 1.5K is not as bad as it was launched in the 2nd half of June and test drives weren't available at some places (like Sterling Auto, noida) till 25th June.

really early days -
am sure the chaps at honda had already sold about 1 - 1.3k before even the launch happened - common practice...
the figures that are reported are Wholesales - Manufacturer to Dealers
and not Retails - Dealers to Customers

though itd be interesting to know what Honda comments about the Retails is.. have you come across any takers - havent seen one on road till date..

Maruti Suzuki sales up 22.6 percent in June (Source: Indo Asian News Service)

Wed, Jul 1 11:37 AM

New Delhi, July 1(IANS) Passenger car market leader Maruti Suzuki Wednesday reported a 22.6 percent surge in its sales in June, compared to the same month a year ago.

The company sold 75,109 units, including export of 13,336 units, this June as compared to 61,247 in the same month last year, it said in a statement.

This is also Maruti's highest-ever monthly export volume with overseas sales increasing more than 175 percent, the company said.
Maruti's sales in the compact car (A2) segment comprising Alto, Wagon-R, Zen, Swift, Ritz and A-Star grew 22.2 percent. The company sold 46,156 units in this segment as against 37,767 units sold in June last year.
The mid-sized (A3) segment comprising SX4 and D'zire grew 5 percent but that of the C segment - Omni and Versa - fell 1.1 percent.

All the more a reason to worry for GP. Typically primary sales are jacked up compared to retail. So initial despatches would be large (Initial Linea sales were around 2.5 K and now below 1k). Jazz at 2k is amazingly impressive and there was just a week's difference in the launch date of Jazz and GP.

Also Ritz was launched on 18th may and it sold 8500 in May and its sales is 6000 in June. It has always been the case of initial volumes being higher than volumes 3 to 4 months down the line

Looking at City and Jazz numbers, it looks like people are finding Jazz as an alternative to City. I don't think any other car would be affected too much by Jazz

"The passenger vehicle business reported a total sale and distribution offtake of 19,513 nos. (17,039 Tata + 2,474 Fiat) in the domestic market in June 2009, an 11% increase compared to 17,567 nos. (17,017 Tata + 550 Fiat) in June 2008."

Just curious to know the split of FIAT sales in June!

Hope FIAT is doing good with Linea settling at 1000 and GP settling at 1300-1400..

Regards,
Sathya

Does anyone know what Fiat's real sales targets could have been?
If they sell 2-3k Linea plus Puntos every month, I wouldn't say that they did too bad. Expecting to outsell swift is obviously being overambitious. Is there a difference between a company's actual (inside) sales targets and the one that are announced in public?

2474 FIATs are not bad considering that GP has been in the market for less than 15 days.

During Linea launch, I read that their target was 20,000/year.
So 1600 Lineas/month. Seems like they are quite short of their targets.
