I really think that of those 2474 fiats, Punto may be at max at 1000 units as its launched just a few days back and people have got test drives from 25-26th only.

Last month Linea sales were 901 and seems sales have picked up again, would be happy to see Linea sales around 1300-1400 units.

Why dont they give breakup of fiat cars

Also am surprised as to why HONDA hasnt posted sales details as yet. They post sales details by 1st , they posted on 1st april, 1st may, 1st june but NO details on 1 july? Are sales trickling down? A member has reported that CITY sales have significantly come down.

as in GP should have been higher or lower...
it depends from co. to co. what their launch strategy is -
MSIL and Hyundai because of huge Dealer base sell a lot of cars in the 1st couple of months - primarily against Demo cars and Network Stock buffer..

Fiat may have a different strategy and would have launched the car without building too much of Dealer inventory.

Moreover - if you notice - for MSIL or Hyundai launch the demo vehicles and ready stock for Retail is available from Day 0.

but for GP i remember it took some 2-3 days for ppl in the forum to get their hands on even the 1st TD vehicle.

different strategy - perhaps ---
also 1 point - MSIL and Hyundai have Dealer Network as one of their strengths.

I will restate - early days GP reported sales may not reflect its true demand... wait for a couple of months.

as far as Ritz nos. going down - MSIL claims to have a mantainance shutdown for a week - i.e. no production

EDIT - Change thread topic from May 2009 to June 2009

During my punto test drive, I spoke to the salesperson who sold Linea to me in Concorde Christ College. He told me that they are selling 60 Fiats per month consistently. So, looks to me that Bangalore is selling quite good numbers.

it never went to 6000 level, that would have been a miracle, city selling to almost Dzire numbers.
so approximately honda lost 900 in city number and gained around 2000 as Jazz hit show-rooms this month.

The Hyundai figures include exports as well. Almost 50% of the total sales of Hyundai is from exports

Yes, City price went up on April 1st and this price hike was announced in early March. Hence there was a huge rush in March. Indeed i am one of the guy who saved close to 45K as i booked the car one week before price hike..

And the latest news is Honda is now giving discounts on ANHC from 30K to 1.50 Lacs. Think about those who have bought ANHC between 1st Apr'09 to 30th Jun'09 when the prices were hiked

June 2009: Cars Sales and Analysis

It gives me great pleasure to announce partial car sales in June 2009. (I will still wait for Vasudev's XL sheet). But here goes (courtesy: Hindu)

Quote:

Mumbai, July 1 June was a heady month for Maruti-Suzuki and Hero Honda in the car and two-wheeler segments as they consolidated their leadership positions. Factors such as lower interest rates, ease in credit disbursement and a more buoyant rural market helped their cause.

For Maruti, the almost three-fold increase in exports at 13,336 units was welcome news as it reported total monthly sales of around 75,000 units, a 23 per cent growth over June last year.

“Since its first shipment in January 2009, the A-Star has led the company’s exports. It accounts for 90 per cent of our international business,” said Mr Mayank Pareek, Executive Officer, Sales and Marketing, Maruti Suzuki. He added that domestic sales were also boosted by a revival in the urban market, primarily the top 10 cities, over the last one-and-a-half months.

Hyundai Motor India posted 18 per cent growth at 47,267 units, a bulk of which came from exports. “The first half of 2009 saw us maintain a strong position in the overseas market which saw a resurgence due to (scrapping) incentives in many European countries,” said Mr Arvind Saxena, Senior Vice-President, Sales and Marketing.

Tata Motors reported flat growth at 17,039 units. The Indica range grew 19 per cent at 10,210 units while sales of the Indigo sedan fell 26 per cent to 3,522 units. The Sumo and the Safari were down 11 per cent to 3,302 units.

The company’s ally, Fiat showed a four-fold increase in sales at 2,474 units against 550 units in the same month last year, thanks to the Linea and the recently launched Grande Punto hatchback.

Mahindra & Mahindra saw a 56 per cent surge in sales mainly on account of the Xylo multipurpose vehicle which has a booking order of 18,000 units.

Sales of Honda Siel Cars India were up 6.5 per cent at 5,039 units. The recently launched Jazz accounted for 2,032 units which brought it within arm’s length of the flagship City model which did 2,351 units. It will be interesting to see if the Jazz maintains the momentum considering that, for a small car, it does not come in cheap at over Rs 7 lakh

Two-wheelers
Either way, June has been memorable for Honda with its two-wheeler business getting stronger by the day. Its joint venture with the Hero group, Hero Honda, saw sales grow 24 per cent to close at 3.66 lakh units. In the process, the first quarter sales crossed a million. “Our domestic market share is at an all-time high of 59 per cent,” said a company release.

“Building a robust product portfolio across categories, exploring new markets, aggressively expanding the network and continuing to invest in brand building activities boosted our performance,” said Mr Anil Dua, Senior Vice-President, Hero Honda.

Honda’s other two-wheeler arm, HMSI (Honda Motorcycle & Scooter India), posted its ever highest sales since its inception nearly a decade ago at 1.03 lakh units. Of this, scooters accounted for a little over 59,000 units with motorcycles taking up the rest.

Sources said that productivity improvements were underway which could see production during this fiscal touch 1.5 million units. The year will also see HMSI launch its 100cc motorcycle.

TVS Motor showed a six per cent increase to 1.15 lakh units, thanks largely to scooter sales at nearly 26,000 units. The company added two new motorcycles Apache RTR 180 and TVS Flame SR 125 in June.

Bajaj Auto did not declare its sales figures on Wednesday.

India Yamaha Motor’s sales surged 84 per cent by selling 17,878 units while Suzuki Motorcycle sold 12,335, posting 33 per cent growth.

As for commercial vehicles, Tata Motors showed a two per cent fall at 26,205 units. The light commercial vehicle segment posted a 17 per cent growth at 16,256 units while medium and heavy commercial vehicle segment continues its dismal performance showing a 23 per cent decline at 9,949 units.

It looks like the company which is REALLY smiling from year on year gains is Fiat - with its new GP and Linea they are soon catching up with their arch rivals Honda- a WHOPPING 349% increase- over last year, clocking more than 50% of Honda car sales in June 2009 with only 3 cars in its portfolio against Honda's 5. The GP has done well in its first month with sales hovering around the 1300 mark (external source) and the Linea with around 1100 units (a slight month on month gain) It also looks to me that Honda's continuous Jazzy advertisements has left City customers sticking to the Jazz hence splitting usual 4000 odd City sales into half. Looks like the City also has finally thrashed the Civic (its own sibling) and CRV has gone out for good- though Accord sales seem to be on par with the rivals (not indicated). Mahindra seems to be enjoying its sales numbers with the runaway hit- Xylo (also advertised extensively). Maruti and Hyundai undoubtedly remain segment kings in the hatchback market with Hyundais i20 doing good numbers as well as the Maruti Ritz with around 8500 units. The Ritz (similar to what the Jazz is doing to the City) is eating away sales from the Swift as it is considered more VFM and styling is better. Tata Motors ended on a flat note with the Indica Vista doing the same as previous month figures and indica sales overall grew as indicated above. Indigo seems to be falling in sales (maybe on accounts for the August release of the Indigo Vista). This month will be interesting to note (July 2009) as there are big fights going on (with respect to previous months launches):

1) The Grande Punto vs i20 vs Ritz vs Jazz
2) The Linea vs Honda City
3) Laura vs Altis vs Civic

Only time can tell what will happen! Will the Jazz sales drop owing to 70% of reports condemning its expensive price tag? Will the Grande Punto and consequently Linea sales increase owing to the new GP ad by Yuvraj Singh (Be different from others- the bold new drive)????

CR :-)
