Hey SMG,
This is awesome !
Even i did so many things before buying but your this checklist is amazing. Thanks for writing this peice of information, you mentioned every single bit of information here. This will really help others to buy vehicle. Well i missed this article and bought mine. Yes, facing some minor issue :D
Hope to hear from you on car maintenance ...some tips like this...
cheers
Amitabh :-)
Thanks for the checklist-I used all of it to check my new car purchase. it was very useful in deed.
Couple of additions from my side:
1. Drive at high gear low speed for a while so you can detect any rattle. Dashboard rattles are a common problem in many cars-easily detected this way.
2. Test drive on different surfaces if possible and on different inclines too, not only on a flat stretch around the dealership.
A MUST READ for every team-bhpian.

Don't forget to tip the Chowkidars/security guards, mechanics at the dealership. They will remember your face and when you drive next time to the dealership, you will receive a Royal Salute.
The Sales Person who helped you in the whole buying process may not accept a direct (Rs) tip but you can always offer him a small gift (like a nice pen, tie pin , music CD , a book, perfume etc) as a token appreciation towards his/her service.
Also while leving thank all esp. Showroom manager/owner, workshop / finance / accounts / insurance people and (most important)the front desk staff (reception) , say some good words about their service , also mention that you are quite happy about the overall buying expereince and will recommend this dealership to all . (Don't burn the bridges , even if your experience was not so good).
This will build your reputation over there and in turn you will always get a better/priority treatment. |
The sales executive and the team leader could be taken out for dinner. You will surprised at the imputs they provide about their company, its employees, the people at the service workshop. They may even speak to the Works Manager and put in a word about, how particular you are about service.
Always show your appreciation when the job is done to your satisfaction, while at the same time do not hesitate to tell them about their short comings and if the mater is serious, always put the complaint in black & white. This will keep them on their toes. Also inform your sales executive and sales manager about your service problems, if any. In most Showrooms, these days, the Customer Relations Officer will put you at ease by co ordinating with the Workshop & the manufacturer. Above all your matter will be on record & this can help the manufacturer and also all of us at some time or the other
Well Guys,
D-day for my Swift is nearing, and this article has come to my notice in good time.
One thing that is worrying me after pre delivery visit yesterday is that the vehicle has already run 41 Kms- while at the time of PDI (pre deliver inspection) it is recorded as 28 Kms.
Is this a real cause of concern, kindly suggest based on your experience.
Vivek.
hi vivek, good that you noticed the difference in the meter.
But has the vehicle gone for registration and all other formalities. If so, then the difference is pretty ok. else you may have to check it with the guys at the dealers.
hope there ain't nothing to worry but better worry about it now than after taking delivery.
my opinion,
ak

Love this..Wish I had this 5 years ago when we took delivery late evening..The dealer called us late evening, left no option..Never went back to him , he swindled the orignal lancer Mats for Mats of an esteem, Complained in HM Chennai, Got the dealer kicked and recieved compensation..Did all service and maintaince from another dealer, the one I orignally planned to purchase from, but he was taking a week for delivering the lancer in the Mystic Blue colour..! So patience is a virtue and I learnt it later...lol...! Good work friend..!

Even in western countries new cars are not delivered with a full tank of petrol.:)
never understood why North Americans say Gas instead of the correct term , petrol.

Gasoline...........................
Very good info...
if you could have given this info a Year back when i bought my Optra i would have been happy..
well when i buy my next car i will check all these stuff...
If one were to use this list to get an uncertified used car, one would probably end up buying a new one. This is an amazingly detailed list. Great help. Thanks for the effort.
You know what... add a few more points which are not here, because this is for new cars, and you will have the most unbeatable list for buying even pre-owned cars.
