I too used to keep a 3310 as a spare phone. Now I keep a 1100 as a spare. Advantage; they are reliable. No hanging, crashes etc. like the new phones. Like having a MPFI car and another carb car as a spare.

This is news. Everywhere I read that Maruti's are the most reliable and the A.S.S. is the best. I thought those comments for reserved only for TATA-FIAT here. At least you've been honest about Maruti.

I think the AT market is developing. I also hope they give us something better than the 3 speed AT which did service in the Esteem, Zen and WagonR. I had a Zen At and as compared to the 4-speed AT of Hyundai (Santro, i10, verna) it was pathetic.

AN A-Star AT is definitely good news for me as it widens my choices. However, Maruti's past in AT remains a big worry.

I doubt if it will be cheaper than i10 AT, well good scoop though, well awaited AT on atleast one car from Maruti.

Though I would love to have one on Swift or SX4

Last week I had the privilege of being driven in a Santro AT, it was really amazing. If the A-Star can match similar performance and mileage surely it will be a success, since a lot of people will look at it as a city car. Good going Maruti. BTW wont this be the first AT from the Maruti stable?

No. As I mentioned earlier at some time or another there were AT versions of the Esteem, Zen and WagonR. All had a venerable 3-speed box which is very poor as compared to the Santro/i10 4-speed box, not to say about the boxes in higher segment cars. Event he 800 had a 2-speed AT in its disabled car avatar.

Perhaps the reason why Suzuki (and Maruti) never have had a good competitive AT option (compared with Japanese peers) is its market focus. Its main markets are Europe, Japan, and India; which are low to moderate AT penetration markets. By comparison, Toyota/Honda targeted US as their `overseas' market from the 1950s. The US is an AT market as much as India is a manual market. That explains Toyonda's better ATs.

Its good that companies are intorducing more AT cars into the market. They are a natural choice when you think about the traffic jams in the major cities these days. Hope they bring out a Ritz D AT. That would be something!

I doubt if the A star AT would be launched anytime soon in India. May be there were testing it for the export model?

There is some talk going over certain blogs and sites about an August 15 launch of the A Star automatic. Surprised at why nobody here has a scoop or insider information.

Frankly, i think nobody is bothered! The normal A star itself has all but disappeared from the buyers mind, so lesser said the better, about the automatic!

From the Motoroids review - I can see 2 positives and 1 negative

1. The AT gear lever is on a slotted panel - that means less mistakes while shifting P-R-N-D-3-2-L

2. The gear indicator in the dash. This is real good. Again minimizes mistakes during shifting.

3. NO AIRBAG offered.

I would be real interested to know the price of this one.

Hmm, May actually be better than the i10 AT and pose a problem is priced right. They need to do face lift and make it look like the nissan or something.
