Tata Nano allotments this Week ! EDIT - TBhpians post your confirmations here

A new chapter in Indian automotive history began with the launch of Tata Nano few months back, and now post the bookings, it is time for actual allotment of the little wonder.

Tata Motors has proposed to declare 1 Lac successful applicants by the end of this week with deliveries ( to dealers ) starting next week. The allotment process will be purely on luck draw concept watched by third party observers to maintain complete impartiality.

According to Tata Motors representative, Chosen 1 Lac customers will be delivered their cars within first 3 Months. Additionally, retained customers (not in 1 Lac but not canceling booking) wiil also be delivered a car within, hold your breath, 6 months.

The lead time for conversion of booking loan to auto loan is 10 days. All allottees have an option of:

1. Convert booking loan to auto loan from preferred financier. i.e, the same financier who did the booking loan.

2. Get a fresh auto loan from any other financier and close the booking loan.

3. Pay cash up front and cancel the booking loan.

If a customer does not have auto loan by the end of lead time (10 days), their booking will automatically canceled and new allotment will be made from retained customers.

So, when do we have our first full fledged Test Drive and ownership review. GTO, you there?

Does that mean to say, there will be 1 Lac Nanos on road in about 3 Months, from now? Have they increased their production capacity?

Here's to hoping there's atleast a couple of BHPians in the 1.0 lakh "chosen ones".

I am wondering what percentage are genuine bookings, and what for just the premium! Any guesses?

That is something which took me by surprise too. Only time can tell how much truth is in this statement.

So, It turns out that 3 months is for complete allotment (whatever that means), while it will take upto last quarter of next year for complete deliveries.

TATA has lived up to its brand value and national trust in TATA.(not tata cars alone)

I had booked one for my father. Yesterday I checked the allotment status. There was a congratulatory message from Tata and I was overjoyed with the thought of getting and allotment from the first batch. My joy was shortlived though. The message had the information that the delivery would take place between January to March 2011 and the price will not be protected.

Hmm this and not a lot of bookings, looks like we aren't going to have clogged roads like we thought we'd have after all. The pain is going to be gradual. Most might withdraw even.
