I tried my former Baleno number, I got the new owner info. He is going to cringe to see 0HP though.

Can't use it on my current vehicles, since all of them are KA-20.

If you are getting the Chassis number and Engine number would not it be enough to identify that you are buying a genuine vehicle or a fake documents vehicle while buying it in 2nd hand market.

That is a good one. Never thought about it from that angle.

well i just tried this sms facility - in my case vehicle was moved from company lease to my name on 27th feb, but it still reflects my company's name as owner!
Also i think there is a genuine privacy concern here - instead of making this database publicly accessible over sms, they could have made it available on a password protected portal or over phone to the police. If anyone goes to file a hit and run complain to police station, the cops should have access to this database. I don't see why the complainent needs to know anything more than a vehicle number while filing a complain!

How recent is the Data??

I sold my car on sunday and the new owner got it transferred to his name on the next day i.e yesterday. But the SMS still shows me as the registered owner. Now not sure how long does it take to reflect the new information. Does any body know how latest is this RTO SMS data?

I tried and got correct info - Onwer name, Engine number, Chasis number, Make, and Car color.
But, I did not understand this last line in the info provided:

[HP, C 8,796]

This is for my M800.
What could it be?

I got this as an email forward last month and i tried the registration number of the car that hit me. Info obtained didn't add anything that we didn't already know, just tried to see if it works.
Our lawyer sent a registered letter to KA03 RTO seeking the details of the vehicle that hit me to which they promptly replied.

Its not mandated yet. They give the owner details (Name only) and the tax details with just the registration number, with the entire history of ownerships. They have digitized all the records right from 1950's. And all the data is pretty accurate.

Access to Drivers license information is restricted as one has to enter the license no and the DOB.
