Toyota will launch a facelifted camry on 31st July. However there won’t be much changess in the new model as its a mid-life facelift. While the segment leader Honda spruced up the Accord with a V6 engine, Skoda’s launched the all new superb in India. Skoda’s superb petrol variant is doing very well in the market and have already earned rave reviews from the critques. While Honda and Skoda are firing on all cylinder to lure the customers, Toyota cannot be left behind. Toyota’s new camry will counter the advent of these models till an all new model arrives in 2011

Lets see how this would help Toyota. Accord has always been a winner in this category and with Diesel offerings from Laura and Superb, the camry looses out all the lot more.

There is no question of Toyota being left behind, because it's not even a part of the race since the launch of the Camry !

The Superb has rocked the Accord's sales figures and overtaken it, inspite of supply constraints ! With such heated competition, the Camry can only be a part of the race by reducing pricing or getting an all new model.

I am keeping high hopes that this time they will price it correctly since Superb and accord are already rocking the market.

I always liked camry as a overall product, but being a complete CBU unit spare's wait is a factor which always kept it away from masses.

The Camry needs a price correction more than it does a facelift! Newer headlamps, a grill and some extra features aren't going to help its cause. The Camry MUST be assembled locally, so that Toyota can take the fight right to the Accords doorstep.

Until that happens, the Camry will have to be content with hotel orders (EPCG scheme) and the odd numbers from personal buyers.

Toyota in US has come up with a 2.5 ltr motor developing 169bhp ( SAE rating ? ) and a 6 speed manual. I hope toyota also brings in this motor with the 6 speed manual. Also toyota needs a paddle shift gearbox with a cog more.

The major factor for Camry's low sales is its price. If toyota manages to start production of next generation Camry in India, it can very well offer tough competition.

But currently, if they are not able to pull down the prices, any cosmetic upgrade will not help much. A very competitive product that is not successful only because of price.

Completely agree with you! Plus IMO - the tourist/hotel taxi image also affects the resale value of the car. Second hand car value of a Camry drops faster than a hot potato!
