2690 for Fiat is quite disappointing... Assuming 900+ Linea, GP numbers would be roughly 1800 numbers....not a really good start i guess....yes, i see many i20 on roads these days....and Ritz- it is a quite natural hit..Maruti and Hyundai knows mass market formula...

@nurni- you're probably correct, punto would have lowered linea's sales; I was at the showroom the other day, around the 25th maybe and they'd sold only 5 lineas. On asking I was told exactly what you've suggested.

Fiat numbers seem very disappointing. Atleast the new craze for punto should have kept it at 3000 and lineas 1000 as usual.

I will say that GP sales at about 1500-1800 is a decent number for a new car with handicap of FIAT history. But not to worry, if FIAT does not goof up this time, sales will catch up slowly and steadily.

8000 Nos for Xylo is astonishing sales in my openion. This also proves that Indian companies understand the Indian customer and market best. Introduction of successful cars like Indica, Indigo, Ace, Magic, Scorpio and Xylo by Indian manufacturers proves this.

Why should everyone be disappointed with FIATs numbers? I think they should be decently happy with these numbers. We tend to forget from where they have started off! Let them provide good service and good buying experience for all customers. Doubling these in the next 12-18 months should not be too tough if they achieve those two.

I agree. One needs to compare the growth with Fiat's own sales until now and not with the others like Maruti or Hyundai.

Hope they better everything else to gain and build the brand. But it also means that to grow any better they would need some additional models in their lineup. Being in the volume market, they need to see huge numbers.

From Hyundai's India web site

Commenting on July, 2009 sales Arvind Saxena, Sr. Vice President - Marketing and Sales, HMIL said, “HMIL registered a steady growth in the month of July and it seems the market is stabilizing at this point and in the coming months we hope to see both the export and the domestic market picking up specially with the festival season starting next month. what is wrong with Hyundai? they were extremely consistent in SUV segment by selling 3 cars each month for last few months. From pure salesman language - isn't it a 300% drop?

Another very interesting observation would be Honda CRV Sales....they didn't sell any CRVs in April/May/June and it is 30 in july.....did they discount it in July? i didn't see any promotion though...

They stopped importing the CR-V because of the foreign exchange losses. You couldn't buy one even if you were willing to pay the price.

The A2 number seems huge. Going by the excel sheet by GTO and vasu, the last 6 months sales for A2 segment have been:

Jan 09 - 19266
Feb 09 - 18440
Mar 09 - 22289
Apr 09 - 20140
May 09 - 20881
Jun 09 - 20331

that's a HUGE gain of nearly 100%, I would love to have a break up of them.
As per my estimate, the extra 20k sales might have come up from santro & i10 discounts + i20 CRDi.
Even considering i20 sales jumping by 2k which is huge for its segment and price, then nearly 18k jump for i10 and santro is also phenomenal.

Or they might have clubbed export numbers into it.
