Maruti got their first set of 8 engineers from Detroit which was doing rounds in media a few weeks back.

Maruti getting its first hires from Detroit: Rediff Business News, Latest India business news, India Economy news, World Business, Finance news, Latest business headlines, business videos and business articles.

Is this move initiated by Maruti is more to move to a global arena or is it a genuine effort to improve the vehicles in India ?.

Maybe this is also a stepping stone for Suzuki to go global in a big way with Maruti!.

Looks like Cost-cutting to me:D

They should also hire some car designers from Italy! :)

Yet to see a good-looking car from Maruti apart from Swift...!

hiring engineers who have been laid off? Not too sure abt the company but cerntainly good for the Expat.

Rediff Article - "These are engineers with tremendous capabilities in automobile research and engineering. They have specialisation in car design, styling and modeling, engine development and manufacturing, crash testing and hybrid technology," said I V Rao, managing executive officer (engineering) of Maruti Suzuki.

What do you mean to say? I am not taking any personal offence but all I want to say is that it is quite possible that these people were laid off while Detroit was in shambles. My suspicion becomes stronger when this article states that they are from R&Dlol:.

R&D = Money. American Auto Giants = No Money

equals

genuine effort to improve the vehicles in India ?.

First part could be true, but not sure about the link with the 2nd statement.

Only one thing is proven slowly and steadily Japanese are realizing value of getting the design done in India to cut costs. Despite making money for so many years they had no inclination or intention to do anything here except handing down phased out models to India despite GE showing the way.

I would say this is nano effect Mr. Suzuki need to eat his words. Everyone knows how stupid he sounded deriding the nano endeavor.

In other sectors as well European , US and Koreans have development outfits here ( taking research bit with pinch of salt) but honorary whites never trusted the local capability.

True. Currently, I think they hire comic book artists to design their cars. The A-star and the Ritz appears to be straight out of those manga comic books.

Awesome! can we expect some good 'ol muscle cars from Maruti in the near future? A Baleno with a Hemi maybe?

What if they would have hired engineers from Italy? Then would you expect a car similar to Lambo from maruti? lol:

Its high time with growing competition, as such many hatchbacks are poping out in India. Recruiting engineers is a step to develop more inovative ideas may be.

Well, there is a good chance these Detroit engineers would never even have seen a hatchback in their life, let alone design one. :D

It's high time that Maruti gives us some fresh new designs rather than hand me downs from Japan. So I hope this is a move in the right direction.

I dont think they would "actually design a hatch", instead, they may participate in chassis/suspension/dynamics/and-what-not of the car etc. Just a thought.

Also, I remember few months back there were many opening at MSIL on Naukri.com

I am not sure what is all the fuss about though. Many Indian engineers are also working in Michigan, they dont make headlines over there etc etc etc.............just a thought.

No wonder I loved them. Hope they keep this manga designer in house for a looong time. :uncontrol
