If speculations are correct Volkswagen doesn't have any plan to launch Tiguan in this year. As per a Volkswagen dealer, they are looking for a 2014 Q2/Q3 release.

Hi Karan,

The 2015 model looks killer, but I doubt we'll get that. Here in india we usually get an year old model which was released overseas. Example the elantra, the current elantra in the US is a facelift version without the interior changes but we got the 2011 model in 2012.

However the elantra for 2013 got an update and shall see if it reaches to india. On the same I doubt if we will get that gorgeous 2015 update of the tiguan. Hope we directly get the 2015 model like u said.

Good catch, but most likely an import on its way to Bhutan or Nepal. I do wish the VW guys wake up soon to the craze for entry SUVs in India.

Volkswagen to bring Tiguan to India?

Volkswagen is well aware that they need a product in India to give them a bit of an edge and the only way to do that is with an SUV. Enter the Tiguan.
Worldwide the Tiguan is a highly successful model with Europe dominating numbers followed by China, Brazil, Russia, the US and Australia. Obvious to see that VW has largely targeted the BRIC countries and India makes a lot of sense in this case.
In India, this SUV could be positioned alongside the Jetta, which means pricing should be in the range of Rs 15-22 lakh , depending on the production plan.

The most viable production plan would be to assemble the Tiguan in India, though we are not discounting the CBU route as well, in which case the pricing would be higher.

Powertrain that make the most sense for India are the engines that are already offered here in the Jetta or Passat or Yeti. That means Volkswagen could look at offering both the 1.4TSI petrol — there is even a 2.0-litre TSI, but would be prohibitively expensive — and what could easily be the most popular choice if offered in India, the 2.0-litre diesel in three states of tune, a 110PS, 140PS and a 170PS.

My view is that it would be very difficult for VW to bring in the Tiguan at any reasonable price point (below 20L on road).....There is really a very very narrow gap below the BMW/Audi crossovers and the "high end" models of the smaller SUVs like the Duster/Terrano...VW probably does not have the brand to pull people up from the segment below and cannot price it low enough to pull people from the segment above...

As announced earlier by VW, the Tiguan is one of the three new car launches planned for India with the other two being the Volkswagen Ameo compact sedan and the new Passat.

The Tiguan is one of the three new VW models lined up for India; is likely to be assembled at the VW Group's Aurangabad facility.

For India, the Tiguan is bound to get the option of petrol and diesel engines. Transmission duties will be handled by a 7-speed dual-clutch unit, and the SUV will be available in both front-wheel-drive and 4MOTION all-wheel-drive guises.
