Maruti Suzuki A-star (sold as Nissan Pixo/ Suzuki Alto in Europe ) is rated as fourth best environment friendly car as per the VCD eco-car ratings. VCD((Verkehrsclub Deutschland – German Traffic Club) eco-car rate cars on the basis four different rating categories - CO2 emission, noise pollution, health pollution and environmental pollution. The VCD has been following environmentally compatible cars for 20 years accepted by top societies and manufacturers across the world.

A-star powered by the K-series engine emits just 103g/km and is rated behind prius hybrid, insight hybrid and toyota IQ. While none of the three vehicles are not available in India. We drive A-star on Indian roads. I wish more such cars to be produced in India and team-bhp stands by it. For details on the ratings and rating agency find the attachement

Long back when the Indian market was opened up a similar study was done. Daewoo came out with full page ads about how their Matiz was less polluting then even the Mercedes E class. The reason was the smaller 800cc engine and not some space age technology. This study seems similar only today there are hybrids so smaller engined cars are no longer coming out on top.

Isn't the same K-series engine used in the Ritz? Or is it the one used in the A-star different?

Ritz has K12M motor that is 1198cc. Internationally it is available with K12B that is 1242cc. To get the tax concessions, the capacity was reduced to 1198cc.

The A-star comes with K10B ( correct me if I am wrong ). The engine is same as A-star sold here.

The series of engine is same as we had in Zen, Esteem and Baleno i.e. G-series. Overall its called K series engine, but different capacity motors are available.

Both are K-Series but Ritz uses a 1197 cc, 84 BHP /11.5 Kgm engine, while A-Star uses a 998 cc, 67 BHP/9.0 kgm one.
