Once, cars like the Toyota Aygo and the Honda Jazz hit Indian shores, the Swift is bound to lose a hefty lot of it's customers.

All i can say to the Swift is...........enjoy your success while it's there.

like the Zen was a hit the moment it hit the indian market and it still is loved by many (including me)...for the Swift to pull off something like that while competing with the pedigrees will certainly be an feat ...(although the MUL CEO was very confident in saying "we will dominate this new segment that has been create with the introduction of the Swift ")

i dont know about your region but the swift is really flooding the streets of Delhi ..

while getz has been in the market for the last 10 months, it still isnt that common!

I also own a swift (done about 1000 kms) and I dont find any issues with the car.Its worth the price you pay.Panel gaps, quality of plastics used atc are problems for most of the cars in India.( Tata indigo ,Ford Ikon,Accent all have quality issues).
Honda,Toyota all are getting ready to launch cars in b+ segment but most of these cars could be priced above 5 laks.

The hype is pretty much worth it for the following reasons :
1) Great engine : Its pretty responsive and knowing Maruti,it will last.
2) Decent FE : 10-12kmpl is definately good.
3) Design : Its got a very aggressive look to it and will definately appeal to masses and classes alike.
4) Maruti A.S.S : Well.......

And no car is 'Perfect'.Every car has some issues to deal with. So,its basically a subjective issue.

nothing is perfect....you can find auto jouno's slaying beemers for flaws, commenting on how one of the button was harder to push......

my only complaint with swift is the motor...come on suzuki, we deserve better now....why not a dohc, and why not throw some options for the buyers,..give them more engines to choose from man...this countryis an IT major, not a third world country !!

i wish if manufacturers could plonk some more advanced engine technologies in the cars

but if Swift comes with such specs then that means increased cost, less FE which means
less sales, low market share = not maruti target

1. it is a VVT engine...FE might improve even.
2. legitimate price is always welcome.
3. B+ was never for masses.
4. higher costs and lower share should not mean that we start plonking bajaj autorishaw engines in cars now..to minimze the costs n blah. that is what i think swift has faced enroute india.
5. if they can reduce 16K on M800 in one day, i guess u can make out how much profit they are pulling out of one car.."ghar se daal kar nahin bech rahe hein 800 ko"
6. we are not concerned woth maruti' target is.....our porpose is to get a good car for ourselves

its a 100BHP engine compared to current 82(?) BHP engine

may be maruti wanted to make it for masses

similarly maruti is not concerned with what a bunch of performance freaks want they want to sell cars to masses to make profit

Posting from Bangalore...

Is the Swift hype actually helping Hyndai sell more Getz? I seem to notice an increase in the number of Getz that I notice on the bangalore roads...

Is it only me or is it a fact?

CORRECTION: 87 bhp, non vvt....vvt is known to boost FE as well as power, depending upon your driving style....

there should be some compromises on profit to evolve compitition and market standards, and as the largest manufacturer of indian sub-conti, maruti should make the first move....and its not a bunch, its a whole fraternity.

that means that they are selling the cars at loss, in fact, selling at 10' of k' of profit.......sacrificing both workmanship and quality in the process....

here, the sole thing i can say is...honda, gm, skoda and fiat should come up as the saviours of indian market and launch some good motors in the vehicles they launch....i will be the first one to buy another vvt engine, or a skoda machine....my exp with honda tells me that.

P.S: maruti has inculcated this feeling among indian buyers...if it changes its mind-set...the common guy u are talking about, will have to switch over to whatever they are being provided....

Actually I have a different gripe about Swift. Although I was impressed with the pictures, now that I am seeing Swifts on the roads and parked areas, I am not that impressed about the looks. Especially, I don't like the front and side views. I know looks are in the eyes of the beholder, and in my eyes Swift is not a looker at all.
