Nice scoop (again) Sid. Looks good. I agree that it is a tad overpriced but isn't that the case with most automobile manufacturers here in India? Maybe immediately after launch they offer the car with some Diwali discounts .

This car should be priced bang in Civic/Corolla territory. Anything more will create hurdles. GM doesn't need to place this vehicle wrt Optra's placing. Optra is an old, almost dead product, downmarket it & have an open pricing strategy for Cruz.

a compression ratio of 17.5:1 for the diesel will mean that this might be one of the most refined and quitest diesels around.

Guys think about it this way, you're getting way more kit than you do in the Japs. One of the main things that caught my eye apart from styling is that there are rear AC vents.

In our market where majority of the customers of cars in this bracket are chauffeur driven, this feature alone might sway sales in favour of GM!

.
theyre ac vents under the front seats. wont be useful. even the civic has these.

The interiors are awesome. Sid, you should consider changing your user name to Scoopster, Scoopie or something like that.
Thanks

Congratulations, sidindica, for your terrific scoop!

As most of those who posted before, I also think the car's success now depends on pricing. 16L for the VCDi Manual might be way too enthusiastic, as both Laura and Jetta Diesels manuals are available from 13- 14lac onwards, and automatics for 14- 18 lacs. Features alone might not attract buyers, neither would low maintenance costs or blistering performance- Magnum is a case study.

Anyway, for those who don't like VW cars, want a performance Diesel, or an upgrade from their Verna CRDi's, this car might look attractive.

GM should replace Optra with Cruze.
Cruze certainly looks bigger than Civic/Altis to the eye (on pictures). Good enough for GM to position Cruze as more car for less. But only if GM price it properly.

"rigid monocque shell 'designed to pass' current EU crash tests, NHTSA and IIHS crash and roof rollover tests in USA"

Any data on crash tests? Or still under process?

Nope, in real life, looks similar in size to the Civic/Corolla.
That is the reason I was surprised that some of the posts suggested that it would be priced in Accord territory, in which case it is nowhere near the American sized Honda.

Great work sid! Does this mean that the magnum will be phased out? Slightly disappointed with the pricing. Top-end asking price of Rs.16 lakhs is bit too much for the Cruze.

The dimensions in figures suggests that the Cruze is slighlty larger than Civic/Altis. It must be the large grill and wheel arches thats creating illusion.

Cruze is much better overall package than Optra. IMO, Optra should be relegated by GM to compete with Verna.

Is it the first time GM is launching petrol and diesel at the same time? I'm not sure whether Optra was launched with both.

Nice scoop and the car is overpriced for its brand image.

Bangalore folks can see a white Cruze in the Whitefield area (the stretch between ITPL and Brigade Harmony) - it looks like a Civic and has the badges masked.
