I have a Vento TSI as well, and I use cruise control as and when possible. In your above chain of events, you don't have to speed up to desired speed after braking (underlined). The "RES" button resumes your previous "SET" speed. So after you brake, press the RES button. That's it!

Once you get used to it, you know which button is "RES" button. That is the only button you need. So it isn't much of a distraction either.
