Wow - great going!!

This is a real eye-opener, thanks for sharing!

Also, could you provide the source? It would be a welcome addition to the monthly sales analysis posts.

Dont agree with your Linea segmentation

I should be in the Altis / Laura / Civic segment by size.

If you were looking just at price points then Jazz & I20 itself would have been the Fiesta Verna segment along with the currently incorrectly placed Linea.

Pls segment as Vasudeva correctly does.

The info itself is good, and would like to acknowledge the effort.

This is an extremely useful sheet and a random check proves its accuracy in more cases than not.

The CR-V numbers must be some mass bookings like some chain of hotels.
The Skoda Laura and Superb sales have increased by a good amount. Thats surprising.
Great Job @Karpusv!

Superb effort and results Karpusv.

On the Scorpio/Safari front, Safari sales seem to be slackening once again as the year progresses

Any views/ideas/opinions of the forum members on the same??

Superb Karpusv.

i20 has become the segment leader in premium hatchback
palio sold only 11 . Innova has again become segment leader and xlyo lost its enthu I think so.
Jazz still able to sell 1000+ car which is quite interesting but anyway less than what honda excepted.
What about Sumo Grande or the sale figure of SUMO include victa +grande.

Great job Karpusv, appreciate the model wise detail sales figures.

Was quite surprised to see Ritz & Swift’s figures dropping MoM. In-fact Swift lost the segment leader throne to Indica. Estilo seems to made a come back with its new model.

i10 seems to be losing steam steadily since last 4 months where as i20 sales are flat around 3300.

Punto & Linea sales seems to have stabilized around 1800 to 900. Palio seems to on its way out, just managed to sell 11 cars.

Jazz being overpricing just managed to cling on to four figure digits. If this continues then we can expect a price drop or some goodies along. Honda better learn, Jazz is overpriced.

Interesting to see that there is a 10% drop in sales MoM in the sedan segment overall visa vise a 9% increase in the small car (hatch) segment

A2 segment i10+ Santro cumulative sales From Jan-Aug'09 is close to Estilo+A-Star+Wagon R (~1.4 lakhs).

Great effort!

Palio sold 11! Why does FIAT even sell this? It is hight time they take some action - phase out or face lift. I'm not sure even a face lift is a long term solution.

Punto sales are not bad for a FIAT.

1) Estilo selling 2500+ units is news to me.
2) A-star is selling less than Estilo.
3) Function over form Wagon R is selling quite well for some years now. Newer competition has not fazed it out.
4) i10 is selling well, but its coming at cost of Santro. This has gone well, just the way Hyundai wanted. Internationally Hyundai has replaced Santro with i10, and even in India it has managed the same unlike Maruti where the Ritz is not able to take place of Wagon R.
5) SX4 selling well, I am surprised at this. I thought it was around 500-600 units, but for last three months it is doing good sales. Its an achievement considering that this is the car that has single engine option, the other is City and Accent. And the engine is not diesel.
6) Xylo is not able to beat Innova. This indicates that people love brand and next in line is dynamics.
7) Linea and Punto sales are less than expected. i20 clearly has beaten Punto and Jazz. Diesel power ?
8) Verna sales are also less than what I expect considering that it has a good diesel. Looks like petrol Verna is not selling well.
9) Indica sales are misleading as I think it contains Indica Vista sales as well.
10) Altis has beaten Civic very well. Practicality wins here.
11) C-class leads 3 series, but 5 series leads E class. Weird.
12) Looks like Endy has taken hit from Fortuner.

Great effort Karpusv

Do you also have the numbers split by fuel type (petrol/diesel).

The numbers of many models are quite revealing, especially the Xylo claims are put to rest now. Innova still leads, though Scorpio+Xylo brings in more numbers for M&M.

Jetta seem to be doing far better than i had thought. Laura is picking up quite well, and even the old gen Octy is pulling along.

Even Logan outsells Aveo. GM has some serious thinking to do.

Karpusv: Surprises to see the M-class not represented. Do you have those numbers as well?

Agree!

Anyway, this xls is nice. Makes Vasudeva's xls redundant. Model wise breakup is better than segment wise breakup.

I can't understand your reasoning, is it just to show that Linea is a segment leader?

Better place it with Accord/Camry !!

Linea will be history soon. A very nice car for garage but not for day to day use.

I think Sept 09 should be termed as Launch month of year- with max. no. of launches.
ANyways, FIAT Linea will never be history as 1.6 MJD is on its way and soon after that 1.4 TJET in 2010.

How did you know that? Wait till they plug the 1.6 motor to it. Did you TD Linea before coming in to that conclusion that it is not for everyday use?

I do agree with your viewpoint that Linea does not belong to the Civic/Altis segment.
