Can I afford to buy a two door? No.
Would I like to buy a two door? Maybe, depending on which car it is.
Do I see value in a two door? No monetary value. Snob value, yes yes.

You missed the Dolphin....

Light Azure CNA 7768 makes me one of the privileged few in India who do have a two-door car...

Still running? What do you do for spares? I was one of the few dolphin fans around - couldnt afford to buy one myself when it was around and it wasnt around when I could...

I hope you have the original Dolphin and not the Montana.

Wow. the Dolphin looks sweet. Not only is it a 2 door its Rear Wheel Drive.
I can still remember Dolphins kicking maruti's a$$ in the Sholavaram races.

Ever had a look at the lanecr coupe that autopsyche has made? It burns the roads. I would love to have the scissor doors he has on the other lancer.

898cc in-line four cylinder engines that were very smooth. They had a good output advantage over the Marutis then, plus they were much lighter and more stable.

I'm not sure of this, but I think it was called the Reliant Kitten in the UK. The owners of the company had earlier brought out a three wheeled car called the Prakash Badal in India, which was again a Reliant car called the Robin in the UK.

If you check out this site, you will find that the Reliant Kitten was actually the 4-wheeled version of the Reliant Robin:

Specs of the Reliant Kitten (in the absence of any on the Dolphin)

RWD, that's why they won at Sholavaram. Fibre bodies, that's why they were so light. Deepak 'Bobby' Jayaram runs a 15 second Dolphin. His secret: an Esteem engine! Those cars weigh around 500kg. It's a brilliant car to race. Pity they were made by a bunch of thieves.

ps. Ananth, your car looks pretty darn good for something around 20 years old. How about a few more pics?

What pics? Has he posted any?

EDIT: Just took down Pest Patrol and I can see the pic. Yeah its in very good condition, but thats the advantage of an FRP body - no rust....

well the zen carbon and steel were not flops but limited edition cars.only 250 of each were built and they were sold out within one and a half month...talk bout ppl not accepting 2 doors.one place where maruti went wrong was that they just changed the body style...they shud have put a 1.3l engine or atleast 1.1l engine to make it even more powerful and sporty.the reason y palio 1.6gtx failed was cos they did not advertise it properly.if they wud have associated a tag of a powerful car they wud have sold.look at what ford has done...even though 1.6 ikon does give too much f.e.;ford branding it as a josh machine has made people who are interested in power accept the car despite of poor f.e.(kindly dnt bring up dat ikon is a sedan and palio was a hatchback'disregard it as we r talkin bout power and not body versions).also the timing of launchin palio 1.6 wasnt right.in the time of maruti 800 and zen givin economy of 14 atleast,a car(palio)givin an economy of 9 wud surely go down).and wud love it if maruti brings the 2 door swift to india ...just the right car to tk the 2door concept in india ahead.

Dolphin was a pushrod 2V engine, but sounded really rorty. 10" wheels with drums all around (I think).
Soild axle with leafsprings in the back and double wishbone front.

Apparently one of the Badal's burned down in a spectacular fire in the center of Bangalore and ever
since then its got a reputation of the car that catches fire.

Zen CARBON was the only car I had in my mind when I came back to India after my education. But, a big zero was awaiting me! I could'nt find none by any dealers. Then after searching a lot, I MEAN LOT! ! (about 1&half year) I only met 3 of these which were either sold or was in a 'not buyable' condition!

I'm still waiting for my Swift 2 door to arrive and I'll (without any thoughts) take it for that dream spin as soon as it is announced!

Maruti Udyog! C'mon now, it's too long now!

Tears may roll !
Nerves may spill ! !
Brains may thrill ! ! !
Hands may Tremble ! ! ! !
Throat may shrill! ! ! !
Pl gimme my 2door,
I wont worry for what I did Kill ! ! ! ! !

A two door car would be a good buy for the new generation of pros coming up : Double Incomes No Kids.. but I guess it would sell more as a lifestyle statement rather than for practicality..heck.. even Merc has figured out a way of putting in two additional doors and still calling a car : Coupe.

I like 2 Door cars and would go for them. If at the time of buying a car, I am faced with both options, I would definitely buy a 2 Door Car. I wanted to buy the Zen Carbon but I already had a Zen so it did not make much sense to sell it and go in for the carbon at that time.
